Car enthusiasts often turn their attention to the license plate. On the numbers of the Russian Federation on the right side, separated by a black line, is a regional number. By the number of the region it was previously possible to determine where the motorist came from. It was very interesting to observe, being far from my native land, the numbers of my region in another car. Now those who purchase a car remotely are in no hurry to change numbers to their region. In fact, it is very useful to know the codes of the regions that are in the neighborhood.
How are regions distributed?
There is a certain pattern of division of regions.
- 01-21. Such a code had the republics, which are located in alphabetical order from Adygea to Chuvashia. A small amendment - the Altai Republic has code 04, since the republic was formerly referred to as Gorny Altai.
- 22-27. These numbers have acquired edges, which also follow the alphabet.
- 28-76. The largest section, which consists of areas in alphabetical order. Due to various reforms, exceptions have appeared. For example, the formation of the Trans-Baikal Territory, which is number 75.
- 77-78, 92. Cities of federal significance (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol).
- During the reforms, autonomous okrugs and oblasts ceased to exist as subjects.
Everyone is familiar with code numbers based on this principle, for example, 42 and 142 regions, 77 and 177 regions. In practice, it often happens that there are not enough numbers for all cars. The solution to the problem is that the number 1 or 7 is attributed to the region code.
