Joey Jordison: biography, the early years

Joey was born April 25, 1975 in Iowa. His childhood turned out to be saturated. The tendency to creative activity began to manifest itself in early childhood. Unlike his peers, who hung out all day in front of TV screens, Jordison preferred to listen to heavy music. Many did not understand how a boy of his age might like such “tough” (at that time) performers like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and Kiss. The last of the above-mentioned groups to this day is the favorite group of this outstanding musician. In his interviews, he repeatedly mentioned that Peter Criss, who was the drummer of the band Kiss, was his idol and greatly influenced his musical future.

The first creative successes

When Joey Jordison grew up, he got a job in a music store, and in his free time he played in various amateur groups. He was not at all interested in studying at a prestigious college, which caused bewilderment of all relatives. But, despite all the reproaches, Joey Jordison continued to do what he liked.

The first success came to him at the age of twenty-one, when he joined the young group Slipknot, formed by the same promising and ambitious musicians as himself. At that time, they still did not know what glory would fall upon them after only a couple of years. Young people began to play in the genre of new metal, which in those years was just beginning to emerge. So Slipknot can rightfully be considered its pioneers. You can also say with confidence that they have more than others influenced the development and popularization of the genre.

Debut studio recording

Slipknot released their first album just a year after the band formed. It is called Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. The album had a "raw" and aggressive sound, which was very different from what they began to play later. The album sold only a thousand copies.

The composition of the group also decently differed from the modern, to which the current fans of the group are so accustomed. For example, the vocals did not yet have the famous Corey Taylor.

The coming of glory

But Joey only became known worldwide after three years, when in 1999 Slipknot released their self-titled album, which became the number one hit worldwide. He held the highest positions on all charts and enjoyed success with both listeners and music critics. It can rightly be called innovative. Many young musicians repeatedly tried to copy their music, but in most cases it ended in failure. Many noted the non-standard appearance of the musicians: all without exception wore awesome masks and tried not to show their faces in public. All this added mystery and led to even more interest from the audience. Clips also had a special atmosphere of insanity. And on live performances there were real shows that many could envy.

Even then, everyone celebrated Jordison's virtuoso drums. Despite his youth and little experience, he showed everyone that he is a professional of the highest level. Joey Jordison was distinguished by an incredibly fast game, which added to the music even more rigidity and brutality. He quickly became one of the most famous drummers in the world of heavy music. In the future, this allowed Jordison to take part in the recordings of the albums of many other famous groups.

Peak career and legendary concert solo

Then came the most famous album of the group called Iowa. In it, Joey Jordison reached a higher level, surpassing himself. It was during this period of time that they went on another world tour, during which they recorded one of the most ambitious and famous performances in the history of rock music. This concert was released on DVD and was well received by the audience, bringing a lot of money to the musicians. It was here that the audience could see the legendary solo of Joey Jordison, performed on a special drum kit. The difficulty was that right during the solo performance, this installation moved in a circle and turned upside down even without stopping for a second. In such a situation, playing is incredibly difficult, but Joey has done just amazing.

Third-Party Music Projects

After their next large-scale tour, the members of Slipknot decided to temporarily suspend their activities and take a break. But Joey Jordison was not going to waste this time in vain and began to appear in various clips of other famous musicians, among whom was even Marilyn Manson. But the main event was the founding of the Murderdolls group. In 2002, they broke into the world of heavy music and started playing first-class horror punk. Many have already forgotten about this genre, but with the advent of this group, interest in it reappeared. In this group, Joey Jordison, whose photo is presented to your attention in the article, first appeared before the public without a mask. Murderdolls were a huge success, but, unfortunately, did not last long. Soon, Joey returned to Slipknot and began work on his next album.

Subsequently, he managed to play with bands such as Rob Zombie, Roadrunner United, and even play a concert with the legendary band Metallica: at the last moment, Jordison replaced their main drummer, who felt bad. He was also lucky to play with the Norwegian black metal band Satyricon.
