In the heart of Yekaterinburg stands a grandiose building crowned with an openwork hanging dome. This is the famous Ekaterinburg circus, where amazing programs have been held since 1980. The design of this building is considered the best in Europe.

Circus Location

In the center of the Leninsky district, where the streets of Kuybyshev and March 8 intersect, a circus building rises above the west coast of Iset. Next to it is the Geologicheskaya metro station and an unfinished television tower resembling the shape of a chess queen. It is adjacent to the Green Grove arboretum and the Greenwich shopping center.

Even the Yekaterinburg circus borders the Yunost stadium, the Novo-Tikhvin nunnery. From it to Plotinka and the main city square of 1905 - the Ural Arbat - only 15 minutes of unhurried progress. A magnificent view of the circus building opens from the observation deck of the Ural metropolis "Meteorological Hill", located on Bazhov Street.

The history of the circus in Yekaterinburg

The building of the first stationary circus was erected in 1933 according to the project of designer K. Bezukhov on a site occupying the corner of Rosa Luxemburg and Kuibyshev streets. It lasted a little more than 40 years. In 1976, a structure built of wood burned down. The main entrance of the old circus overlook Kuibyshev street.

With the assistance of two directors, they built a new Yekaterinburg circus. Yekaterinburg as a result of close and fruitful cooperation of experienced circus figures, architects, designers and engineers received a unique structure. The team of designers and builders took into account the comments of directors (former and future) - N. I. Slautin and F.F. Leucinger.

Thanks to Felix Feliksovich, who knew the specifics of such buildings while working in the Nizhny Tagil circus, over 160 valuable adjustments were made to the project. The building project was created by architects Yu. L. Schwartzbreim and M.F. Korobov, designers E.P. Peskov and R.M. Ivanova, engineer Nikitin.

The new circus opened the doors for spectators 02/01/80. He was given the name of the legendary trainer V.I. Filatova. Since 1996, it has become the venue for traditional regional, national and international festivals. In 2012, the institution became the laureate of the Russian prize in the field of circus art “Shariwari”. The award was established by the Russian State Circus and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Architecture and interior circus

A striking distinguishing feature of the architecture of the circus in Yekaterinburg is the dome, made in the form of a huge lattice carved structure formed by powerful semi-arches. The outer dome rises up 50 meters. The height of the inner dome is 26 meters. Due to the considerable height and shape of the dome, the building has excellent acoustics.

The design features of the structure make it possible to carry out complex representations in it. The premises in the building are finished with Ural stone. The hall seats 2558 spectators. The Yekaterinburg circus is equipped with two arenas. In one, rehearsals take place, in the other they give performances. The buffet sells pastries, sandwiches, cotton candy, popcorn and various drinks.

Museum

The institution has a unique circus museum. This is the only such museum in the world. In its halls it is allowed to take relics in hand. Expositions tell about the history of the institution and circus art. Backstage is opened in front of visitors there - a place where miracles are performed.

Representation

Each program of the Yekaterinburg circus is full of bright performances by extraordinary artists. In the arena, trainers give their stunning views with their pets. Balancers and acrobats soar under the dome, striking the audience with incredible tricks. Funny clowns add fun and joy. The program of performances often changes; they do not bother and are not satiated.
