Psilocybin mushrooms are the common name for macromycetes, in the fruiting bodies of which are the psychedelic substance psilocybin and other hallucinogens. Their eating affects the mind and causes a cycle of certain experiences, which are called trip. Since ancient times, people used psilocybin mushrooms as entheogens in various religious rites. However, their use can seriously undermine health, lead to mental disorders and others to negative consequences.

Types of psilocybin mushrooms

There are a lot of types of mushrooms containing psilocybin. A significant part of them grows in tropical latitudes, while Asian and American species are poorly studied. In almost every continent of the planet, psilocybin mushrooms can be found. The collection season is the end of August – mid-January. Several varieties are described below.

Psilocybe semilanceata

This variety is widespread in the temperate zone. These mushrooms grow both singly and in groups (10-20 copies). They can be found in the grass of meadows, on wastelands, cattle pastures, on roadsides, in park areas. On cultivated fields psilocybe are not found. They are symbiotic with certain cereal herbs.

Panaeolus cyanescens

This variety can be found in the warm zones of both hemispheres. These bell-shaped mushrooms are miniature, dense and as thin as paper. Often grow on cow dung. In Bali, they are consumed during the holidays.

Panaeolus subbalteatus

These mushrooms are found throughout Eurasia, as well as in North America. They often grow on livestock pastures, which are constantly flavored with manure. In young specimens, the plates have a red-brown color, and in old mushrooms they turn black.

Conocybe tenera

This mushroom can be found on the edges of forests, in the grass, in forest zones. It can grow absent-mindedly (single specimens) or in groups. The hat is bell-shaped with the transition to a wide conical shape. The plates are tan, medium frequency.

Action on the body

Psilocybin mushrooms act on humans like LSD. Psilocybin provokes a psychomimetic syndrome, the manifestations of which are similar to schizophrenia. If you take psilocybin mushrooms on an empty stomach, the effect appears after 20 minutes. At first, a person experiences euphoria, but soon tremor, anxiety, and delirium appear. Increased auditory and visual susceptibility, impaired light perception, space and time are compressed. Then all sorts of hallucinations and visions appear, often frightening. A sense of time and space is absent. A person can observe his body from the side, etc. The trip of each personality has its own special, unique features, but it is far from always being positive and pleasant. Often there is a negative trip (paranoia, fear, shocking visions), especially with severe overwork and unbalanced people. Psilocybin mushrooms have a destructive effect on the body, and for individuals with an unstable psyche and suicidal tendencies, their use is a mortal danger!
