Fingerstyle is one of the techniques of playing the guitar, in which the sound is extracted exclusively with your fingers. It is mainly used on acoustic models of the instrument. This style of play makes it possible to simultaneously perform the main melody and accompaniment. This technique is used by many virtuoso musicians, one of them is the Canadian guitarist Evan Dobson, which will be discussed in this article.

Finger style

Dobson uses the fingerstyle guitar technique. This style is very difficult to master, but Evan succeeded. This technique is the use of rhythmic techniques, the simultaneous use of parts of bass, melody and rhythm.

The percussion fingerstyle is based on the “percussion” technique for extracting sounds. This is quite difficult, since the musician needs to play not only the melody and bass part. At the same time, he should reproduce the effect of percussion. Not only for beginners, this style is difficult. Even experienced musicians playing in other genres, but not using fingerstyle, previously experience significant difficulties in its development.

A guitar in this style is used as a multifunctional instrument that can replace an entire orchestra. Fingerstyle allows you to perform a solo part, accompanied by bass and drums. There are no clear rules in this style. The works use characteristic techniques of sound production, and each guitarist himself finds his own unique solutions.

This style became popular thanks to such musicians as John Gomm, Eric Montgray, Andy Mackey, Newton Faulkner, Tommy Emmanuel and, of course, Evan Dobson.
