The memorial complex "Soldier's Field" in Volgograd is a fraternal burial of Soviet soldiers who died during the fierce battle of Stalingrad. The soldier’s field is located on the outskirts of Volgograd and is one of the many attractions of the city and the region. Its area is about 400 hectares.
The complex got its name after the Battle of Stalingrad, which claimed tens of thousands of innocent lives. History
On the territory of the modern Soldier Field in 1942, battles were fought for Stalingrad. In August 1942, a small detachment of Soviet soldiers held the defense here, who had the task of keeping the enemy at all costs. The fighters completed their mission, restraining the onslaught of the enemy until September 1942. After bloody battles in this part of Stalingrad land, a huge accumulation of unexploded ordnance and military equipment remained. For a long time these lands were not used for household needs.
In 1975, volunteer sappers completely cleared the territory; about 7, 000 shells, ammunition and mines were neutralized. In 1975, at the Komsomol rally, a decision was made to plow the territory and to open the Soldier Field memorial in its place.
Description
A monument to the defenders of Stalingrad was erected next to the Moscow-Volgograd road, the authors of which are sculptors A. Krivolapov and L. Levin. Nearby stands a dead tree, which serves as a symbol of life scorched by war.

In May 2013, the sculpture of the girl Mila disappeared from the memorial. Concerned residents raised the issue of vandalism, but fears turned out to be in vain. The monument was reconstructed, a few months later it was returned to its original place.
However, in 2014, the monument was vandalized. It was so damaged that it could not be repaired. It was decided to recreate it again - by May 9, 2014, the monument was reopened.
Monument to the girl Mila
The authors of the memorable composition were the architect Levin Leonid and sculptor Alexei Krivolapov. In the center of the composition is a figure of the girl Lyudmila, in whose hand is a flower. Nearby is a monument in the form of a front triangular letter. This is a letter from Major Dmitry Petrakov to his daughter, who died in the battles during the liberation of Orel, but he wrote a famous letter in this field. On the monument-letter, genuine words are engraved from the letter of Father Petrakov to his Mila, which still touch the soul.
