Every day environmental problems are becoming increasingly relevant. The environmental situation in the world leaves much to be desired. The future of the planet is in the hands of mankind, therefore, in order to somehow improve the situation, special organizations are created to protect the environment. One such organization is the International Green Cross. His tasks include monitoring the ecological state of the planet, preventing catastrophes. How long has the Green Cross existed in Russia and what it does, we will consider in this article.
A bit of history
The idea to create an organization similar to the International Red Cross came up with the idea of USSR President Gorbachev in 1990.
He brought it up for general discussion. The topics on ecology and its protection were understood by the majority, so the idea resonated. And so the organization appeared. It was established in Kyoto. A number of different countries joined in the following years the International Green Cross.
Organization goals and directions
Like any other organization, the International Green Cross has its own lines of work and purpose, otherwise the organization’s activities would be simply useless. Several goals can be identified at once, but the main goal is the same - it is a safe future for the planet. This can also include enlightenment and education in a person of a sense of responsibility for the environment in which he lives.
Several areas of organization stand out at once. Firstly, this includes the resolution of conflicts arising from environmental degradation. Secondly, help people who have suffered from environmental consequences due to conflicts. Well, the third direction of their work is the creation of those norms that would motivate humanity to work, whose conditions ensure a safe and sustainable future for our planet. Both the purpose and directions of the organization of the International Green Cross seem to be clear. Nevertheless, this activity is presented as a mission. It does not entail an end result. You can do something for an infinitely long time for the planet, but the ecological situation will never be perfect. But our task is to prevent the situation from worsening and somehow correct and maintain it. The International Green Cross is doing just that. So, how does the organization work today and what tasks does it set itself?
Green Cross Modern Work
The main activity of the International Green Cross is aimed at protecting the environment, preserving its and existing resources. The organization has put forward a lot of problems at the moment. Among them, the development of methods to attract people to work on environmental protection. In Russia there are more than 20 organizations that are part of the International Green Cross. Among other numerous activities, the organization’s work includes the development of such important projects as “Prevention of the negative impact of the arms race”, “Medical support to the population”, “Clean Water” and many others. In addition to the Russian Federation, this global organization includes 28 other countries, including Germany, France, Argentina, the USA, Italy, Brazil and many others.
The main principle to which the International Green Cross is subordinate is the cooperation of public initiatives in order to resolve global problems, the main of which are the problems of resources, ecology and global conflicts. To date, the chairman of the Green Cross is Baranovsky Sergey Igorevich. During the existence of the organization, it was based on a huge number of world-famous figures. Some of them left, while others continue to work for the good of the planet.
