There is still no such person on earth who would not know that such an insect exists - a mosquito, the life span of which, according to many, is only one day. And today we are sure to dispel this myth! After all, in fact, the life of a mosquito in favorable conditions is much longer. Next to the person, of course, he can’t hold out for a long time - you just have to squeak, and they will immediately slam him.

Mosquito life span

In fact, it all depends on the conditions of its habitat - the meteorological factors, the activity of parasites and even human exposure affect the life span of an insect. On average, male captive mosquitoes can live 3-4 weeks. Females are more lucky, their life span can sometimes reach two months, but this happens very rarely.

Who bites us?

We are bitten only by angry and annoying mosquitoes. Males, as a rule, eat flower nectar, and we don’t even notice them, because the human body does not interest them at all. The thought immediately pops up: "How smart is a mosquito, whose life span is very short - how it feels that people need to stay away!" You can’t say the same about mosquitoes, but they have reasons for that. The fact is that without our blood they simply could not lay eggs. Everything is interconnected. As soon as the mosquito receives her portion of blood, she flies closer to the water - to a pond, a barrel of water and even a tin can, in which rainwater has accumulated. Everything is suitable, if only there was humidity. There the female lays eggs, their number varies from 30 to 150 at a time. And so every 2-3 days. Here she is such a mother with many children!

How far can mosquitoes travel?

Image

This is a very mobile insect. Without landing, a mosquito, whose photo you see, can fly about a kilometer, but this does not happen so often. Basically, they overcome small distances, for example, from a reservoir to a settlement and vice versa. Mostly, female mosquitoes make such flights, because they need human blood, and then a pond to lay their eggs. Males can simply settle on some lawn by a reservoir and not fly away from there.

Wintering mosquitoes

Some individuals who are fortunate enough to appear at the end of the warm period may hibernate. A mosquito, whose life is rather short, usually chooses a basement, pantries, a room where animals are kept for wintering, etc. They sleep in a "numb" state and wake up with the first warmth. There was even one case that occurred in Khabarovsk. For 2 months, the mosquito was in the cold, which sometimes reached -26 degrees, and as soon as it was brought into the heat, it came to life.

History reference

Incredibly, a mosquito whose life span is so short is a very dangerous insect. At one time, a large number of people died from his bites, which at times exceeds the number of losses that occurred during armed conflicts during the years of World War II. And this is true, because a mosquito is one of the first carriers of dangerous infectious diseases, which include malaria. There were no vaccines at that time, so someone survived (there were only a few), and someone could not bear the disease. But now you can breathe easy, such cases are extremely rare.
