Seven public holidays are celebrated in Russia today - those specified in article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. These are non-working days. The country has been known from different historical times, and the all-Russian holidays established in recent years. The list of 112 articles has, however, an exception. The Nativity of Christ, although it is a day off, is not considered a public holiday.

A significantly larger number of marked dates are not received non-working day status. Both one and the other are national holidays. We will talk about them in the article.

What are the national holidays?

These are special days relating to a variety of events: politics and religion, individual professions, memorable, folk dates and so on.

Examples of national holidays in their focus:

  • political - Constitution Day;

  • religious - the Resurrection of the Lord;

  • Professional - Day of prosecutors;

  • Memorable dates - Day of lifting the blockade of the city of Leningrad;

  • folk - Ivan Kupala Day;

  • Entertainment - International Day of KVN;

  • others.

It should be noted that the division of the celebrated days is conditional - a religious holiday may well be a folk holiday, and a professional holiday at the same time political. Consider what are the national holidays at different times of the year.

On the day of spring and labor, unions go out with banners and walk with them through the center of the city. This holiday is celebrated not only in Russia, but throughout the world. The most important memorable date for this period is the twenty-second of June, the beginning of World War II, Day of Remembrance and Sorrow. Then the national flags are lowered, and television services try to refrain from entertainment programs whenever possible. The people mourn and pay tribute to those who died during the war.

In addition to these important dates, the summer months are filled with numerous professional holidays. Various festivals are also held, which over time may well be erected on all-Russian holidays. Some of them are organized directly in nature and last for several days. Especially often they are musical events.

So, which has become truly all-Russian in recent years, the rock festival "Invasion" in 2015 was held in Bolshoi Zavidovo and has already gathered two hundred thousand fans.

Fall

What are the all-Russian holidays in the cool and rainy season?

Autumn begins on the first of September when the children go to school. Parents by this time already pretty much ran to the shops and bought everything they needed for study. This is the Day of Knowledge.

The last public holiday of the year is celebrated on the fourth of November. It is called the Day of National Unity. The holiday is very young. Only at the end of 2004 was the federal law “On the Days of Military Glory (Victory Days of Russia)” adopted and since then a new date has been marked in our country.

All-Russian holidays of a professional orientation in this period are the Day of Patrol Service, the Russian Guard, financier, tester, tanker, programmer, HR manager, recruiter, secretary, educator, machine builder, motorist, customs officer, sign language interpreter, military communications officer, human resources worker, teachers, bailiff and others.

Of the entertaining holidays, the international day of KVN is interesting. The game originated in the Soviet Union and continues to develop in Russia. Today, when many television entertainment programs are invented in the Western world and are only copied onto Russian television, such and similar games are especially important for preserving national identity.

Winter

All-Russian holidays in Russia in the cold season - this is primarily New Year and Defender of the Fatherland Day.

Russian people like to celebrate holidays for a long time. Therefore, the New Year is not only on the first of January, but also (in the old style) on the thirteenth.

On February 23, women congratulate men on Defender of the Fatherland Day. Recently, discussions are underway to celebrate this holiday on the sixth of May, on the Day of St. George the Victorious. But for now, this is the February date.

Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on January 7th. It should be noted that the feast for Catholics and a number of representatives of other religions falls on December twenty-fifth. The controversy here comes from the old and new styles of calendars. Orthodox celebrate the holiday according to the Julian calendar, and Catholics and Protestants - according to the Gregorian calendar.

Examples of all-Russian holidays in winter are the Day of the prosecutor’s office, Russian press, students, navigator, bank employee, networker, lawyer, realtor, registry office, power engineer, lifeguard, dentist, diplomatic worker and so on.

Among the religious besides Christmas, the Baptism of the Lord (Holy Epiphany) is important.
