The concept
The essence of this law is that only a small fraction of the reasons for the efforts made or investments are responsible for the majority of the results, earned remuneration or received products. In other words, only a fifth of our work (20%) and the time spent really bring us closer to our goal, and the remaining 80% of our attempts to achieve the desired, as a rule, do not lead to anything substantial. That sounds a little creepy, but that's the Pareto Rule.
An example of this law can be found at almost every step. In business, a fifth of the product range brings 80% of the profits. The same statement is true for customers with customers. The Pareto rule is also valid in any organization or institution: 20% of employees perform 80% of the work, while the remaining people are not so enthusiastic or simply not properly motivated. Now take a look at our society. Most of the crimes (80%) are committed by inveterate criminals (20%), the vast majority of accidents are committed by the same drivers, a fifth of newly-married couples are waiting for a reason to break the sacred bond of marriage (80% of divorces). Finally, only twenty percent of children are fully aware and use most of the opportunities that our education system provides. As you can see, the Pareto Rule applies everywhere, even at home. After all, if you think about it, 80% of the time we wear almost the same clothes. Only 20% of books read have real value for our self-development, and only 20% of financial expenditures can really have good reason for their justification.
Why is the Pareto Rule so important?
Law 80/20 can have a very serious impact on our lives, because it conflicts with what we used to consider logical. So, we have the right to expect that all our efforts have approximately the same value. That all factors with equal force affect the outcome of the event. That any day is as important to us as everyone else. That all friends have the same value. That all correspondence should be treated with due attention. That all features have the same value, it does not matter which one seems to us the most preferable.
The Pareto rule helps to take a sober and pragmatic look at what is happening to us in the world around us. By identifying and putting aside the excess ballast, we will not only get more free time, but also be able to concentrate on what is really important to us, and thus achieve our goals faster.
