Rashid Magomedgadzhievich Magomedov “Highlander” is one of the best fighters of mixed martial arts on the world stage, representing the Russian Federation. Before professional performances
The athlete himself is from Dagestan, where he began his first sports steps. While serving in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces, the Highlander succeeds in practicing army hand-to-hand combat, which still forms the basis of the soldier’s training camp. And in 2004, it was possible to speak at the Russian ARB Championship, in which he climbed to the first place of the podium. Young and eager for new triumphs, the Dagestan begins his journey in MMA.
Victory and first championship
The debut match for Rashid Magomedov takes place in 2008, where in the local organization of Ufa he defeats Vladimir Vladimirov by technical knockout. The athlete shows his superior prowess in standing above an opponent by winning in the first round. It took less time to send the next opponent into a deep sleep.
The gaining fighter could not go unnoticed by the major Russian M-1 promotion. By signing the contract, he continues to smash his opponents one by one. The track record flaunted of 8 victories, 5 of which do not reach the referee's decision. An extremely controversial battle is held in opposition to his compatriot by our hero, but the outcome should be determined by the panel of judges, which, unfortunately, gives preference to Magomedrasul Khasbulayev.
Such an offensive defeat did not break the morale of the Russian. He trains with great intensity, defeating one opponent after another. After a stunning series of successful fights, the leadership proposes a title battle with Yasubi Enomoto. After a 25-minute cabin, a new champion of the company has been announced. Six months later, he confirms the status of the best warrior in his weight category. Receiving an offer from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the Russian leaves the championship belt vacant.
Transition to UFC
Dagestan makes a short career break due to the death of a coach. Having recovered mentally and physically, he fights with promotion rookie Tony Martin. The American was inferior in the course of the entire fight to our lightweight, after 3 rounds an unconditional victory of Rashid was announced. Magomedov also defeated Rodrigue Damm, Gilbert Burns, and the colorful battle with Elias Silveriu ended in an interesting record. The Brazilian had to withstand the onslaught for three seconds, after which the final gong would have sounded, but the referee in the octagon stopped his beating by the Dagestan.
This was followed by a defeat from Beneil Dariyush. In the next battle, the Russian closes an unfortunate failure, but the corporation management refused to renew the contract. Now the lightweight acts in the PFL Federation, where he distinguished himself by two victories and one draw.
