Biography

Boris Rubashkin was born in a Don Cossack family on June 17, 1932 in Bulgaria. His father, Semyon Terentyevich, fled from his homeland as early as 17 years after the Bolsheviks executed his older brother. First, the guy settled in Turkey, and then moved to Bulgaria, where at the hospital he met the young beauty Theodora Lilova. He subsequently married her.

In the same place, in Bulgaria, the couple had a son, who was named Boris in honor of the Bulgarian king. They raised the boy well; he was an obedient, educated child. I went to mugs, loved to sing, dance.

As a teenager he worked part-time as a collector in stores, collecting revenue per day. After school, Boris entered the Institute of Economics. At the same time, he was accepted into the dance ensemble at the Ministry of the Interior (MVD), where he worked for two years, and later became a good soloist.

For family reasons, Boris moved to Prague. There he completed his studies and graduated. As a student, he worked in a car wash, where he met with an Austrian diplomat. It was he who helped make Boris's wife a visa. After the singer ended his student visa in 1962, he and his wife did not return to Bulgaria, but emigrated to Austria.

At first Boris got a job at the factory, but he didn’t like it there, and he went to the Firebird restaurant. The singer, thanks to his voice, made good money.

In 1967, Boris participated in the contest "The Best Baritone" and won. Then he moved from the restaurant to the Salzburg Opera.

The nickname "Rubashkin" appeared with Boris in the early 70s. At the same time, a French publisher asked the singer to stage the “Cossack” dance and write a melody, which the author coped with perfectly.

The time came when some songs began to be banned in the USSR, and almost all of Rubashkin’s work was also banned. Therefore, the author began to speak in public in private clubs.
