In the Tver region, in the Kalinin district there is the village of Vasilyevsky Mokh. The question arises, why is this settlement so interesting and famous?

a brief description of

The village borders the Mikhailovsky rural settlement and is close enough to the city of Tver - 18 km. Therefore, the majority of the population goes to work there. Vasilievsky Moss is a dead end station of the railway line Doroshiha-Vasilievsky Moss.

As of 2014, 2, 400 people lived in the village. As far back as 1959, the population reached 4971, of which about 770 were pensioners, and about 1273 people of working age. It was in the 50s of the last century that peat extraction in the region was maximum. Since the 80s, a decline in the extraction and processing of peat began, respectively, the village began to "fade away", and people disperse.

Unfortunately, two city-forming enterprises are no longer functioning. The Vasilievsky enterprise of industrial railway transport, which also serviced the narrow gauge railway, was liquidated in 2008.

The second peat company, after the completion of the bankruptcy procedure, was also liquidated. According to travelers, the picture of the former mining site is terrifying - empty spaces, dug up land and abandoned equipment.

History of appearance and development

The village of Vasilyevsky Moss appeared in the 1920s of the last century. The history of its development is completely “tied” to peat mining. Peat enterprise "Vasilievsky Moss" was officially launched in 1928. The enterprise was predominantly manual and very hard work.

Peat is now associated with fires, but 30 years ago it was the main source of fuel. Peat was used in almost all boiler rooms of the USSR. And around the peat deposits enterprises appeared and settlements were formed, Vasilievsky Moss is no exception.

By 1934, the village was officially formed, on the basis of the decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee. During the war years, a partisan detachment under the command of N. Yue Zuev was the “donkey” in the village.

High security penal colony

On the territory of the village of Vasilyevsky Mokh there is a "place not so distant" - this is IK-10. The colony filling limit is 1510th place. As of March 2015, there were 1, 442 prisoners here.

The vital activity and safety of the institution are provided by 238 employees, civilian and certified.

Since 1961, hardware has been manufactured in the colony; since 1980, production capacities have increased. The prisoners manufactured spare parts for ZIL vehicles.

To this day, in the walls of the prison, sewing products are made, mainly for medical purposes - this is the tailoring of shoe covers, slippers, raincoats and household supplies. There is a small wall clock manufacturing facility. In addition, IK-10 has its own greenhouses, established poultry farming, and has its own bakery.

Narrow gauge railway

Vasilievsky Moss of the Tver Region is a narrow-gauge railway on which you can still ride. For a certain fee, they can launch a TU6P diesel locomotive, inside which wooden benches are installed. According to the local population, earlier in this trailer was a mobile dining room. For some time the car moves along a curved rut, turning left and right, then leveled, and travelers are invited to the observation deck.

The district is predominantly abandoned buildings, rails and equipment, mountains of bricks. One can also see the building of the Orshino station burned down in 1994. The first stop is under the Bezhetskoe highway, which at this point passes over the bridge. The second stop is near the Orshinsky crossing. Further, closer to the peat base "Vostochny-1", abandoned cars surrounded by scattered rails are increasingly found. The wagon is shaking more and more that it’s heartbreaking, developments are still underway here, peat is intended as an untouchable reserve for Tver boiler houses.

On the basis of "Vostochny-1" there is even a local population, which conducts interesting excursions.

If desired, travelers on the way back can be taken to the "Reloading" station. It was here that transshipment of peat mined and prepared for use was carried out, and shipment was made to Tver boiler houses.
