The Singapore Embassy in Moscow is no exception. On June 7, 2018, the two countries celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with ceremonial receptions in their embassies.
History of Interstate Relations
Despite the fact that Singapore is a relatively young state, diplomatic relations between Russia and this country were established back in 1890. At that time, Singapore was still part of the British Empire, Russia was represented on the island by an official in the rank of consul, he was Artemy Markovich Vyvodtsev. A year after the arrival of the Russian consul on the island, Singapore was visited by the Russian Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, the future Emperor Nikolai ll.
Diplomatic relations between Singapore and the USSR were established in 1968, when a trade representative of the Asian republic was opened at the Ukraine Hotel. From the very beginning, relations between the two states developed in the most productive way, since Singapore sought to establish mutually beneficial trade relations, regardless of political differences.
The current state of Singapore's economy and its enormous impact on international trade makes this Asian country a profitable trading partner with whom it is required to maintain constant close contact in bilateral interests.
