The history of the children's railway of Khabarovsk

The construction of such a special project was carried out exclusively on a voluntary basis. It was attended by youth, Komsomol members and caring residents of the Zheleznodorozhny district of the city. With the opening, they ripened right by the centenary of Khabarovsk - on May 19, 1958, the first train was solemnly launched along the narrow gauge railway. Then the road was a ring with a total length of 600 m, along which a motor transporter cruised with four open wagons that could accommodate 15 passengers.

Starting next year, the children's railway of Khabarovsk began to modernize, becoming more and more serious:

  • In 1959, the locomotive was replaced by a real narrow-gauge locomotive of series 159. It can still be seen today on a pedestal at the Pionerskaya station. The road was extended to K. Marx Street, flights were replaced. The total length of the route along it then was 3.3 km.

  • In 1965, wooden wagons were replaced with all-metal Polish-made special wagons with a capacity of up to 38 passengers each.

  • In 1967, it was decided to move the road away from the central avenue of the city, which made it reduced by 600 meters.

  • In 1968, an old steam locomotive was replaced by two TU-2 locomotives.

  • In 1972, a real train station was built at Pionerskaya Street, where there was a waiting room, workshops, training and office rooms.

  • The year 1974 was marked by the construction of a hostel where practitioners stayed on this narrow-gauge railway.

  • In 1979, a full-fledged depot was built with a viewing pit designed for one locomotive.

  • In 1986-1987 the rolling stock was thoroughly updated: the Polish Pafagos were replaced by the domestic Demikh PV51, and the TU2 locomotives were replaced by the newer TU7.

  • In 1999, a large-scale reconstruction of the children's railway was carried out: the station and the educational building were repaired, the bed was lifted, the sleepers, rails, railroad switches were replaced, the alarm and communication systems were modernized.
