Gennady Seleznev is a deputy of the State Duma of Russia with many years of experience, who happened to occupy the chair of the speaker. In addition, this man is known as a journalist and an active public and scientific figure, leaving behind many different publications and several books.

The beginning of the way

Gennady Seleznev was born on November 6, 1947 in the small city of Serov, in the Sverdlovsk Region, in the family of Nikolai Stepanovich Seleznev and Vera Ivanovna Fokina. After school he entered vocational school, which he graduated in 1964. He did not want to remain a resident of the province. Therefore, he moved to Leningrad, where he worked for a year as a turner at a defense enterprise. And then the guy was drafted into the army.

Returning to the "citizen", Gennady Seleznev, whose biography had not been any different before, began his journey to the heights. He proved himself an active Komsomol member and even rose to the rank of head of the Vyborg district committee of the Komsomol, and then replaced the head of the committee at the oblast level.

Journalistic activities

The profession of a turner did not satisfy an ambitious and capable young man. Therefore, Seleznev received another education, graduating from the journalism department of Leningrad State University in 1974. In the same year he took the post of deputy editor and then editor of the newspaper Smena. The publication was regional. And he worked in it for 6 years.

In the eightieth year, Gennady Seleznev was entrusted with the chair of the deputy head of the propaganda and agitation department of the Komsomol Central Committee. At that time, he was already a member of the bureau of this organization. From this year to the 88th, the future State Duma speaker edited Komsomolskaya Pravda, and from 88 to the 91st, Teacher’s Newspaper. Gennady Seleznev combined his work in the latest edition with the post as head of the department of journalism at the Youth Institute of the State Committee for Labor of Russia.

In February 1991, Seleznev was appointed deputy editor of the main newspaper of the Union “Pravda”. And after the August coup, he became its editor and at the same time vice president of the newly created Pravda International Joint-Stock Company. Seleznev held the post of editor of Pravda for two years. In the ninety-third, he was fired by order of Shumeyko, the head of the Russian Press Committee. But Gennady Nikolayevich retained the post of vice president at Pravda International JSC.

At that time, his political career was already developing. And in 1995, he headed the print organ of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation “Pravda” on a voluntary basis. Its editor, Gennady Seleznev, whose photo more and more often appeared in the media, remained until the 96th.

Political activity

Seleznev, already in the ninety-first year, became a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU, and after the collapse of the Union he joined the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, from which he entered the Duma of the first convocation in the 93rd as a deputy. Here he dealt with information policy and communications, replacing the chairman of the relevant committee. And in the 95th he became deputy chairman of the State Duma. Party work also succeeded in the man whom the Communists elected as their secretary. Since December 17, 95, Gennady Seleznev is a deputy of the State Duma of the second convocation, and from the 96th, her speaker.

The last year of the second millennium was marked by two important events for Gennady Nikolayevich: he joined the Security Council of Russia, as well as ran for the governors of the Moscow Region and even won the first round. But in the second "round" Gromov defeated him. In the ninety-ninth year, Seleznev again fell into the State Duma. And he was again elected speaker, which led to the deprivation of the party ticket. The leadership of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation demanded that Gennady Nikolayevich refuse the post of Chairman of the Duma, which he did not want to do. And fellow communists expelled him from their ranks.

In the same 2002, Seleznev founded and led his own political force called the “Revival Party of Russia, ” which 4 years later was renamed “Patriotic Forces. For the Motherland. " In 2003, Gennady Nikolaevich received a deputy mandate for the fourth time. But he no longer ran for speakers. But he planned to participate in the presidential campaign of 2005, which, however, remained only an intention. In the 2007 election, Gennady Seleznev went to the Duma from the Patriots of Russia party, which did not get enough votes. Two years later, the former speaker almost completely “tied” to politics.

Retired

Moving away from political activity, Seleznev in 2009 headed the board of directors of the Moscow Regional Bank. No longer participating in government, he carefully watched what was happening in the country. He actively criticized the railway reform, putting forward his proposals, and also tried to contribute to the party building of Russia. He wrote several books on the law and politics of Russia, as well as a number of publications on this subject.
