Location and History
The name of the place comes from the word "moss", which abundantly covers the land of this territory. The area is located not in Nizhny Novgorod itself, but on the outskirts of its suburbs - the city of Bor. Moss Mountains is a series of hills located in the southeast of Bor and continuing to the village of Oktyabrsky. The height of the hills is more than 50 meters.
Previously, the mountains were called Fofanovs - from the word "fofan" (fool). Such a frivolous name emphasized the insignificance of these mountains in comparison with the high Dyatlovy located opposite. During archaeological excavations, scientists concluded that primitive people lived in these places since the Neolithic.

Gorky in 1900 rested here at the cottage of the architect Malinovsky. Then it was in this place that many Nizhny Novgorod intellectuals spent their leisure time. And later, Gorky was here both alone and with his family.
In 1902, the eminent singer Fedor Chaliapin was invited by Gorky to the same Malinovsky dacha. Friends listened to his singing, pouring over the expanses of the Volga, at the "summer concert".
