The geopolitical position of Russia in the modern world is quite complex and unstable. Experts in the field of international relations are inclined to consider this a direct consequence of the specific position of our state in which it found itself after the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics at the end of the last century. The main difficulty was that, legally, being the successor of the disappeared state, the Russian Federation, however, lost most of the economic, geographical and political benefits associated with joining the Union.
After the collapse of the USSR, which bordered on a huge number of states in Eastern Europe, Russia was cut off from them by a fairly large number of newly independent states. Possessing vast territories, these new neighbors of the Russian Federation forced the country's government to take a number of measures to change military policy and economic relations in relation to European states.
The conclusion of friendly alliances between some of the states formed on the basis of the former union republics with countries that were not previously in the sphere of interests of the USSR also significantly changed the geopolitical position of Russia.
But the most negative, according to diplomats and experts in the field of international economy, were the consequences caused by the change in the borders of the former Union. So, if before the collapse of the USSR, it had a huge number of large ports on the Black and Baltic Seas, then its official successor, the Russian Federation, is now forced to be content only with St. Petersburg on the Baltic coast and Tuapse and Novorossiysk on the Black Sea. The geopolitical position of Russia has become no less difficult, and with regard to the possibilities of establishing trade through railway junctions - in return for the 25 major crossings at the USSR, today we have only one located in the enclave of the Kaliningrad Region.
Another specificity of the current position of Russia in the international community is the lack of official state status at a sufficiently large number of borders between the former union republics. This often causes a huge number of disputes between the governments of various independent states formed on the basis of these republics, which also leads to constant instability in the military field. Conflicts erupting periodically on unconfirmed official borders make Russia's geopolitical situation more than difficult.
All this makes it rather difficult to implement the objective geopolitical interests of the Russian Federation, giving its position in the world community some instability. Therefore, for our country at the moment it is very important to establish the most friendly relations with our potential allies. Modern geopolitics is such that even the largest world powers, traditionally considered the main poles of world politics (Russia, the USA, China, etc.), cannot count on a stable position in the world community without the constant support of their allies. This also complicates the situation of Russia, since a large number of countries formed after the collapse of the USSR became the subject of a major political game designed to conquer the greatest possible number of geopolitical and economic allies among the leading powers. The formation of new military and economic unions directly on the borders of Russia creates undue tension and is the cause of a considerable number of international conflicts.
