Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic is the current president of Croatia, in office since February 19, 2015. She became the first woman elected president of the republic, and became the youngest president in Croatian history, taking office at the age of 46. Before becoming president, she worked as assistant secretary general for public affairs at NATO under the leadership of secretaries Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Jens Stoltenberg. Born in a small village, she grew up a bright and ambitious girl.
Biography
This incredible woman was born on April 29, 1968 in a small village on the outskirts of Croatia. During the past three years of schooling, she has been an exchange student. During this time, Kolinda Kitarovich managed to study in Zagreb, Vienna, Washington and Harvard. She also went to New Mexico for a student exchange program.
Grabar-Kitarovich studied fluency in English, Spanish and Portuguese. At an intermediate level, she can communicate in French, Italian and German.

Political career
For the first time, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovich tried her hand at politics in the early 90s. At first, she held several posts in the Croatian Democratic Union (CDU) party, to which she joined in 1993. After completing her education in Washington, DC, she returned to the Balkans and joined their parliament. Grabar-Kitarovich also worked as the country's ambassador to the United States and as an assistant to the NATO secretary general before defeating Ivo Josipovich during the presidential election.
Personal life
In 1996, Kolinda married Dzekov Kitarovich. Together they raise two children. Katrina's daughter is engaged in figure skating and is the current champion of Croatia. Son Luka Kitarovich was born in 2003.
