Profession journalist

In the field of mass communications, there are many branches. Journalism is one of them. The competence of a specialist in this industry includes the collection, processing and submission of information.

The profession of a journalist is very exciting. After all, its main task is to be in the center of all events, to be the first to know what hundreds, if not thousands, of people will discuss in the future.

The orientation of the field of activity most often depends on personal preferences: sports, culture, politics, social life, etc. The work schedule is usually irregular, because important events can happen anytime.

Well-known journalists note that the main qualities in this area are sociability, stress resistance, high endurance. You need to be able to observe the behavior of people, analyze, draw your own conclusions and present them in such a way as to interest the widest possible range of people.

The origins of domestic journalism

The year 1702 was marked by the publication in St. Petersburg of the first Russian newspaper Vedomosti. This date was the starting point in the history of Russian journalism. The newspaper was published by Peter I himself, and he was the first author of articles.

After the death of the king, the baton was taken up by the St. Petersburg Gazette, which departed from the political orientation of its predecessor. The newspaper posted rumors and gossip, news from foreign publications, reports of traveling officials, information from letters from diplomats. It was on the pages of the “St. Petersburg Gazette” that the famous article by M. Lomonosov, “Discussions on the Duties of Journalists, ” became a kind of moral code for representatives of this profession. In it, the author put forward such requirements: to be competent, modest, to respect the opinions of others, understanding how “it is embarrassing to steal other people's thoughts.”

The 19th century was marked by the emergence of a revolutionary democratic press, and in the period from 1910 to 1914 the first "Press Bureau" was founded.

During the years of Soviet power, Russian journalists created mostly ideological media, expressing the views of the ruling political force.

In recent decades, there has been a real information boom that has affected our sphere. This is a century of new types of publications, online journalism. A powerful legislative framework has been formed that regulates activities in this area.
