Modern Russian cinema lags far behind the western one, and this is a fact. The point is not in the absence of patriotism, but in the quality of films. It so happened that in modern Russia there are very few people who, when creating a film, think about art, not about money. However, this was not always the case.
The fact that modern Russian directors for the most part are not very worried about art makes most viewers think that all domestic cinema is a priori bad and does not deserve attention at all. However, this is a very gross misconception. There are such directors of Russia who shot films of the highest level and made a huge contribution not only to domestic, but also to world cinema. Many of these people are no longer alive, but the memory of them will forever remain among those who truly love and appreciate good cinema. So, here are some famous directors of Russia.
Andrey Tarkovsky (1932-1986)
The personality of the Soviet director Andrei Tarkovsky is rightfully considered one of the main figures in world cinema. He was one of those people who completely surrendered to their work, creating not just films, but real works of art.
Tarkovsky grew up in a small Russian village. His father was a poet, and his mother graduated from a literary institute, so the future director from childhood was in love with art. Despite the fact that he lived most of his life in Moscow, his childhood had a strong influence on the formation of Andrei as a person. About this in the future he will make a film called "Mirror".
A feature of Tarkovsky’s paintings is that he pays great attention to the meaning that the film carries. With each new tape, he revealed to the viewer some important truth, giving an invaluable lesson in life. And his last film, called “Sacrifice”, sums up the whole work of the director.

Leonid Gaidai (1923-1993)
The name of Leonid Gaidai is known to every person who grew up in the Soviet Union, with very few exceptions. His films were watched by almost the whole country, and the phrases of his heroes are still winged and are firmly included in our vocabulary.
Gaidai was born in the Amur Region, in a small town called Svobodny, but his family moved to Irkutsk almost immediately, where the future director spent his childhood. In 1941 he was called up for war, however, fortunately, he survived, and not just survived, but returned with medals for military merit and military valor. After the war, he studied at VGIK, in Moscow, and since 1955 he worked at the Mosfilm film studio.
The main direction in the work of Leonid Gaidai was comedy. He knew how to make a film like no one else so that it turned out to be witty, memorable, not vulgar and very funny.

Nikita Mikhalkov
It should be noted right away that, unlike previous movie figures, Nikita Mikhalkov, fortunately, is alive and well and continues to work in the cinema.
Of the merits of the director, it is worth mentioning as many as 3 nominations for the most prestigious world film award "Oscar", which he once received for the film "Burnt by the Sun" in 1995. This award was received by few directors of Russia, although Mikhalkov was not the first of them.
Nikita Sergeyevich was born in Moscow on October 21, 1945 and lived there all his life. The future Oscar winner studied, as did most of the talented Russian directors at VGIK, and after graduating from the institute he shot his first film, which was called "Amongst strangers, a stranger among his own."
In the work of Nikita Mikhalkov, special attention should be paid to such films:
