Julia Mooney, a New Jersey art teacher, was shocked at how wasteful people can be when they buy such an incredible amount of clothing. She believes that this negatively affects society and the environment. But instead of just complaining about it on the Internet, she decided not to do something that could encourage others to follow suit.

In early August 2018, Julia wrote on Instagram that she was going to challenge herself by putting on the same dress for 100 days. At the same time, she agreed that the same dress for a hundred days is quite boring. She also planned to use an apron at work so as not to stain her dress with paint.

Motivation
One of the main reasons for this act of Julia is the desire for simplicity. She has two children who needed to be ready by 6:30 in the morning, and in the absence of the need to choose their own clothes, she became much easier. In addition, it helped to save space in the apartment, since the fewer things, the less cabinets are needed.
Explaining her decision to children, she tried to touch on a social problem. Due to the huge demand for cheap clothes, many companies transfer their production to foreign countries, where conditions for workers may not be the best. For example, in some countries, the clothing industry uses forced and child labor. Some workers also receive wages that are 3.5 times lower than what they require to meet their basic needs.
The rapidly changing fashion creates a situation where the entire production infrastructure gives preference to profit, rather than to the well-being of people. In addition, it has a negative impact on the environment.
For example, as a result of the production of one pair of jeans, the same amount of greenhouse gases is released as from a car that has traveled a hundred kilometers. And to make one cotton T-shirt, you need 2700 liters of water. This is enough to satisfy the needs of one person over the next 3–3.5 years.
The worst part is that sometimes people buy clothes, not being sure that they will wear it.
