The meaning of the word “mentality” can be defined as a worldview, a worldview. It is believed that this is something embedded in a person by his environment. For example, a lot in the worldview is determined by belonging to a particular nationality. Also, the environment affects a person. There is a mentality of great generality, for example, a national mentality. A representative of each nationality has its own characteristics that are expressed not only in his values, but also in his way of life. A typical feature of the American mentality is the desire for a certain social position and material prosperity. The Russian person has other values, therefore his lifestyle is completely different.
If you look at how emigrants live in a foreign country, here you can already see a more colorful picture. Some of them continue to adhere to the same standards of living as at home. Others change fast enough. Someone thinks that mentality is something unchanging. Is it so? The most striking example of change is emigration to the United States. New values are accepted pretty quickly. Nevertheless, one more aspect of this phenomenon can be noted: people who are already striving for a new life usually move to America. They are ready for change. Their worldview long before the move was prepared. Part of the emigrants remains living among people of their nationality. Mentality is not only the worldview of large groups. After all, there exists, for example, such a thing as a criminal mentality. It expresses the worldview of a certain group of people. Moreover, often such groups are part of large communities. Despite the fact that there is something in common between criminals of any nationality, nevertheless, there are big differences between them.
It is impossible to say unequivocally that mentality is a sentence. Especially if it is not a worldview on a national scale. People change. In particular, events that happen to a person can influence the perception of the world and values. A couple of decades ago, the Soviet worldview was the norm. Today it is atavism. If a person does not change, then he stops moving forward. Having lived for several years in a foreign country, the emigrant will no longer be the same as he came to it. Unambiguously, we can only say that the mentality does not change completely. Especially when it comes to national character traits that have been inherent in a particular ethnic group for centuries.
They can only be changed in a few generations. So have changed, for example, the descendants of the first emigrants to the United States. The first of them consciously accepted certain values, which gradually became part of the nature of their descendants. Psychologists say that a person is 80% programmed by the environment and only 20% - heredity. The most interesting thing is that an individual can control himself and determine his own character, paying attention to some things and not reacting to others. Any society can have both positive and successful representatives, and outsiders. The desire for success is inherent in every human individual. However, some realize themselves, while others use ineffective behavior programs.
Mentality is something that can be adjusted just like bad heredity. Character is something that is created by habits. Changing his habits and thinking, a person becomes completely different. Of course, the one who believes that nothing can be changed is most likely right. Because he will not even try to do anything. Anyone who accepts fate as something external creates problems for himself. After all, life goes on, and if you do not change anything, then you can get random results.
