St. Petersburg by historical standards is considered far from the most ancient city in the world. However, its mystical essence does not cause any doubts. Many secrets are associated with his birth, as well as with the construction of the Peter and Paul Fortress, which today houses the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg. There is a version: before Peter the Great laid the city of his name and ordered to build the Cathedral of Peter and Paul on the Hare Island, this place was a temple where bloody sacrifices were made, and eagles flew over it. The king saw this as a good sign …

Fortress construction

It is known that Tsar Peter was personally engaged in the construction of the Peter and Paul Fortress. He drew the project himself and made sure that his plan was realized to the smallest detail. Architect Domenico Trezzini, who led the construction of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, said in letters to his wife that he coordinated each element of the building with the king, bringing his secret plan to perfection. What "secret plan" is the architect talking about? Dont clear.

But it is interesting that a year before the laying of the fortress (in 1702), Tsar Peter went to the Solovetsky Monastery. According to one version, it was the monks who told him where to lay the complex of structures. And another option sends researchers to the events of the overseas trip of the scorer Pyotr Mikhailov, which, they say, ended with his initiation into the Freemasons.

Which of the explanations is true - history is silent. However, what is obvious today is an atypical layout of the fortress. If you connect towers and walls in straight lines, you will get two triangles combined into a six-pointed star. And here we come close to the mystical secrets of St. Petersburg, whose State Museum of History is located in the most mysterious place of the city.

Oddities of Peter and Paul

Did the magical star cause St. Petersburg to never capture the enemy in its entire history. Or is it just a coincidence? It's hard to judge. However, many defenders of the Peter and Paul Fortress in 1941 claimed that this was the safest place in the whole city. And eyewitnesses claimed that they saw how a projectile flying towards the cathedral unexpectedly changed its trajectory and fell near the temple. They tried to explain this phenomenon by the wind. However, that day he was not there …

The first oddities began back in 1917. During the October events, the fortress guards sided with the revolutionary masses and opened dungeons with political prisoners. A month later, the complex of buildings on Hare Island entered the prison system of the Cheka. However, in 1925, the Bolsheviks decided to build a stadium on the site of the fortress. What forces prevented this project is unknown. But a year later Petropavlovka became a branch of the museum of the revolution.

Researchers say that the fortress did not reveal all its secrets, so the place where the Museum of the History of Petersburg is located today may still surprise us. In particular, they talk about the underground tunnels and Masonic symbols found in abundance here.

Peter and Paul Cathedral

This cathedral, which is the basis of the architectural complex called the Peter and Paul Fortress, is an example of Western architecture. It is in it that a lot of symbols are concentrated, which historians attribute to Masonic, for example, the royal arch or the compassion of the sages. Peter I constantly urged the builders of the cathedral, but they did not manage to complete it during the life of the king. But he found last reassurance in his walls, as did his descendants, including the last emperor of the Russian Empire.
