Museum in Spasskoye-Lutovinovo

It was in the estate of the writer's mother, located in the Oryol province, that his young years passed. Born Lutovinova, she was a wealthy landowner. Here, Ivan learned to feel and understand nature, which was reflected in many of his works.

In the center of the estate in Spasskoye-Lutovinovo there was a linden alley. In the shade of these trees, the writer loved to create, gaining his inspiration here.

The I.S. Turgenev Museum-Reserve is the only memorial complex in Russia dedicated to the great writer. It was created in October 1922. At this time, work was carried out to prepare for the restoration of the estate, and a collection of exhibits was also organized. The museum opened its doors to visitors only in 1929.

However, in June 1944, thanks to the active work of the ministers of the museum, the Turgenevsky Reserve was again open to visitors. In the postwar years, active work was carried out to restore the park and the estate.
