In the historical part of the city, not far from the ancient Kremlin, there is a small wax museum of Suzdal. His visit will entertain city guests who are tired of serious historical exhibitions and attractions.
History of the museum
Interestingly, the beginning of the exposition was laid by a group of lovers, who in 1990 in Moscow opened the first exhibition of wax figures. More precisely, then it was difficult to call it an exhibition: in the small pavilion in Sokolniki Park nine wax copies of famous personalities were exhibited. The first figures were Ivan the Terrible, Joseph Stalin and Nikita Khrushchev.
Subsequently, the exposition moved to one of the halls of the museum. N.A. Ostrovsky. There were more and more exhibits representing famous historical figures of Russia, and the area was already in short supply.
Nowadays, a permanent exhibition has settled in the Vladimir region. The address of the wax museum in Suzdal: Kremlevskaya street, 10 V. The museum is open from 10 to 19 hours every day.
Today, the museum exposition consists of more than 150 wax figures. The exhibition, which occupies three rooms with a total area of more than 200 square meters. meters, is called "History of Russia in persons" and covers the time period from the 9th century to the present. Despite the name, there are also figures of foreign political figures on display.
Ancient history of Russia
The collection of the first hall of the exhibition transfers to the mysterious atmosphere of ancient Russia. The countdown begins with the era of the Baptism of Russia, so the first visitors to the exhibition are realistic figures of Princess Olga and her little grandson with a bulk apple in a small pen.
Then Prince Vladimir no longer appears as a boy, but as the great Vladimir the Baptist with his arms extended forward and a confident expression on his wax face.
In the dimly lit corner stands a slightly stooped figure of one of the most cruel Russian tsars - Ivan the Terrible.
In the second hall, to visit which you need to go down into the dark basement, visitors will see the famous chronicler Nestor, who perpetuated the history of Russia. The sculpture depicts him at his favorite job, surrounded by books, with a scroll of paper and a pen in his hands.
Great personalities of Russian history
Further upward, from year to year, are realistic copies of famous personalities. Here is Alexander Nevsky and the defeated Teutonic knights, next to the generals Kutuzov and Bagration. A little at a distance, Napoleon Bonaparte, not quite similar to his images, with his eyes downcast and a slight smile.
The sculpture of Empress Catherine the Great, dressed in a luxurious dress, is surrounded by realistic figures of her favorites. Nearby in a comfortable chair is a sculpture of Peter I, thoughtfully looking at a map lying on his lap.
In the next hall of the wax museum of Suzdal, workers placed sculptures of politicians of the twentieth century. These are mainly Russian political figures, ranging from Lenin to Gorbachev and Yeltsin.
One part of the exposition quite accurately conveys the atmosphere of the famous Yalta Big Three (Churchill - Roosevelt - Stalin), held in the Italian courtyard of the Livadia Palace. For some reason, a realistic figure of Hitler was installed nearby, who was not present at this meeting. The room is not very lit, intentionally or not, but an eerie feeling remains …
Sculptures of creative people
In addition to wax images of historical figures and political figures, sculptures of representatives of creative intelligentsia from different eras are located in the third hall of the museum.
There are many sculptures of poets and writers in the Suzdal wax museum. Here, by the wall, taking off his hat and leaning on an unchanging cane, stands a figure of Chekhov, nearby inspired by Pushkin writes something with a pen on paper. Very similar to his images, Leo Tolstoy seems to be talking about something to attentive listeners … And next to the table Mayakovsky, Akhmatova and Yesenin are "talking."
In the spacious hall there are wax sculptures of representatives of the creative bohemia of the 20th century: Raikin, Ranevskaya, Mironov, Rostropovich and many other famous creative personalities.
