Nikki Blonsky is an American actress, dancer and singer, who became famous after the role of the cheerful bbw and dance lover Tracy Turnblad in the film adaptation of the cult musical Hairspray. This article tells how the life of the puffy actress after this film has developed.

Biography

Nicole Margaret Blonsky was born on November 9, 1988 in New York (USA), in the family of a school assistant and a municipal worker. She has a younger brother named Joey. Already at the age of three, little Nikki began to sing - and she sang well that everyone noticed. The family did not live well and could not afford singing lessons for the girl, however, fearing to miss the child’s obvious talent, at the age of eight she was still given to vocals. In addition, Nicole attended acting classes at the school of William A. Shane, where she took part in the productions of the musicals Swinney Todd, Les Miserables, Kiss Me, Kat and played the main role in the production of the opera Carmen.

The first paid job of the future actress was a position at an ice cream factory. Radiant Nikki Blonsky - pictured in an article.

"Polish for hair"

When Nikki was 15 years old, her parents drove her to the Broadway production of the musical Hairspray as a gift. Since then, her cherished dream was the role of the main character of this musical - Tracy Turnblad.

In 2006, eighteen-year-old Nikki Blonsky tried her hand at an audition in a Broadway production. She didn’t pass this audition, however, director Adam Shankman noticed her there and invited her to the main role in the film adaptation of Hairspray.

The film takes place in 1962. Tracy Turnblad is a charming fat woman, a high school student who loves dancing and performs on local music TV shows. In the midst of black segregation, she advocates integration, because she knows firsthand what it means to be “not like everyone else”. The role was very close to Nikki, since in acting classes she was the only girl who was overweight, but her talent and diligence helped her to succeed.

The actress performed all the musical and dance numbers in the film on her own, for which she was praised by critics. Nikki was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the category Best Actress (Comedy or Musical). Her partners in the film were famous actors, including John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Queen Latif, James Marsden and Zac Efron.

Further creativity

In 2008, Nikki Blonsky was honored to perform the US National Anthem at the election ceremony. Films with her next roles - King Size and Harold - were also released in 2008. In these films, Nikki again plays the role of a schoolgirl, trying to achieve the disposition of others and break the prejudice of excess weight.

In 2009, the actress starred in just a couple of episodic roles, but the very next year she was able to repeat the success of Hairspray: she was invited to play the lead role in the drama television series Puffies, broadcast on ABC Family in the summer of 2010.

In this series, Nikki Blonsky plays the role of Villamina Rader, forced to go to a weight loss camp at the insistence of her parents. The heroine Blonsky considers it humiliating for herself to stay in a "camp for fat" and is of the opinion that you do not need to lose weight, if you do not want it, it is much more correct to just love yourself the way you are.

In 2011, Nikki decided to move away from filming for a while, graduated from hairdressing courses and began working in this field in her hometown. However, in 2013, she nevertheless performed small roles in two films and a series, after which she did not star in another four years. In 2017, she played a minor role in the movie "The Last Movie Star" - today this is the last movie by Nikki Blonsky.
