Nikolai Valuev - "Russian Giant" was born on August 21, 1973 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in a family of ordinary factory workers. Parents could not even imagine that their only beloved son would become the owner of such extraordinary, rare and unusual physical data. They themselves are of average average height. And their son Nikolai was born small.
The weight of the newborn was 3200 grams, and his height was only 52 cm. However, he began to grow rapidly already in primary school. In the first grade, Valuev’s growth almost reached the height of the teacher.
Successful basketball in his childhood helped him become the country's champion in the category of young men in this sport. However, the rapid growth of Nicholas negatively affected the coordination of his movements and physical strength in his teenage years. Nikolai’s body could not resist fatigue, and his stamina decreased. So he went in for athletics (hammer throwing). And here he also managed to achieve good success - he met the standards of a master of sports in discus throwing.

Nikolai Valuev himself once said that it is ridiculous to have a height of 196 cm, and the brains are only sixth graders (12 years old).

Valuev took his first steps in boxing relatively late, only in 20 years - in 1993. This was his first training. Oleg Shalaev is Nikolai's very first coach, and later his manager and promoter. In the same 1993, Valuev had a victorious fight in Berlin with American boxer John Morten. However, the coach, together with his capable student, did not consider this fight professional enough and soon participated in amateur championships in St. Petersburg and Russia. In these battles, Nikolai Valuev twice earned a silver medal.
When, in 1994, Valuev, along with the Russian national team, went to the Goodwill Games, the (international) commission disqualified the boxer, recalling the past Berlin fight. In connection with these events, the athlete had to finish with amateur boxing and switch to a professional career.
He spent only five fights in 2 years, starting in 1994, and with boxers not strong enough for him. However, since 1997, Valuev began to speak more often and more regularly.

In 1999, Nikolai won the Russian championship title (fight against boxer Alexei Osokin) among professionals.

The referee did not pay attention to this and opened an account. Outraged Nigerians removed their boxer from this ring.
World title
Since 2005, Valuev’s coach was Manvel Gabrielyan, and the promoter was German Wilfried Sauerland. By then, his Qualifying fight with Donald turned out to be very difficult and generally equal on both sides. But the judges, under the deafening whistle and noise of the hall, by a majority decision gave victory to Valuev. And already the champion fight with fighter John Ruiz stretched out for 12 rounds. In this fight, even one judge made a draw.
And yet, in December 2005, Valuev finally became the first and only Russian world heavyweight champion. The growth of Valuev Nikolai as a World Champion took place.
Family, wife and children
A formidable look of Nikolai does not fit or even almost does not fit with the concept of "good family man." Meanwhile, Nikolai Valuev is happy in marriage. His height and weight did not prevent him from living for more than 15 years in a marriage with Galina Borisovna (b. 1977, Dimitrova as a girl). Their eldest son Gregory (born in 2002) is 13 years old, his daughter Irina (born in 2007) is 8 years old and his youngest son Sergei (born in 2012) is only three years old.
The growth of Valuev’s wife reaches only his belt. Next to such a giant husband, Galina looks like a tender, fragile and tiny little inch. Her height is only 163 cm, and the weight is 100 kg less than the weight of the spouse. They may well claim the title - the most unusual pair in the Guinness Book of Records.
Although Valuev’s height is unusually high, his children are not yet different in size from their peers.
The great world fighter in his life has repeatedly had to prove his worth as a good family man. Today, the Valuev family has apartments not only in Russia, but also abroad (in Germany), there are cars and even boats.
The story of Nikolai's acquaintance with his future wife
Acquaintance happened by chance at the birthday of their mutual friends. Nicholas then turned 24 years old, Galina - 20 years old. At that time, he was very worried and grieved over the breakup with his ex-girlfriend. Galina, accordingly, became a vest, allowing him to survive the loss.
She, of course, was initially struck by his unusual growth, but then got used to it.
Valuev is firmly convinced that Galina for him is the most reliable rear, faithful girlfriend. She is engaged in household chores and brings up children. And Nikolai is a caring, loving husband and dad for his beloved children.
They hope that they will always be so happy.
School of modern boxing Nikolay Valuev
In 2009, Valuev and a group of like-minded trainers created a wonderful “School of Modern Boxing Nikolay Valuev” for teens and youth. Branches of this school were created in St. Petersburg and throughout the Leningrad region. Three types of groups have been formed: for schoolchildren, students in grades 3-5, students in grades 6-8, and even for more adults. Sports groups with elements of classic boxing were opened for the last group.
Many pupils of this school are already participating and even winning boxing competitions and the Boxing Cup “Valuev Cup”, which takes place regularly in St. Petersburg.
Valuev believes that while he is moving normally and while he has at least some strength, he will try to do something.
