It is worth saying that the plan of two friends was a success: the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum in the Kremlin has become a wonderful abode of the spirit of bygone times.

History

The museum was founded by professor of the Academy of Arts N.A. Koshelev together with the artist A.A. Karelin. The latter was the son of the popular photographer A.O. Karelin. The official date of the museum’s beginning is 1894. It was this year that the City Duma decided at a meeting of July 14. Do not forget that at this moment Nizhny Novgorod could already boast of three museums: the Petrovsky Historical Museum, the Zemsky Natural History Museum and the Diocesan Church Ancient Storage.

The people who participated in the creation of the museum, contributed in every way to its opening, as well as made significant donations, were awarded honorary medals, which were created in limited quantities especially for the opening day. In total, 25 silver and 300 bronze medals were issued. They all parted, as many citizens sincerely cared about the fate of the new museum, in every way helping its development.

An important milestone in the history of this place is the fact that he was visited by the imperial couple - Alexandra Fedorovna and Nicholas II. Specially for the day of their arrival (July 19, 1896) two gold coins were cast and solemnly handed over.
