The meaning of the word "hit" may not be familiar to all people. Especially for them, we say right away that this is the wife of an Orthodox priest. A similar appeal to my mother came from the fact that in the old days all the clergy were popularly called priests. Subsequently, this nickname passed to their wives, only slightly changing their sound.

The life of the clergy

For Catholics, a married priest is something beyond their comprehension. After all, they are confident that such relationships only distract a person from serving God. But the Orthodox Church approached this issue more humanely, since our people have long appreciated the sanctity of the family. Priests were not forbidden to marry both in the times of Ancient Russia and in the modern world.

Therefore, today the fall is quite a common occurrence. True, it would be wrong to say that any girl can become a mother. Indeed, in the world of God's servants there are rules that cannot be violated or ignored.

Who can become the wife of a priest?

Mother or the priest is the spiritual companion of the priest. She is an integral part of it, and therefore for such a man, the search for a woman is a long and painstaking process. He must be sure that his chosen one will never betray him, because an Orthodox clergyman can marry only once in a lifetime. Moreover, in the past, the widowed priest was obliged to immediately leave for the monastery.

Naturally, today no one resorts to such extremes. Nevertheless, certain rules and traditions have remained unchanged since the founding of the Orthodox Church. For example, a priest is necessarily a believing girl who respects God and other people. She should also be a virgin at the time of the wedding, just like the priest himself.

Simply put, divorced women, as well as those who have a child from another man, cannot become mother. This rule can be violated only with the special permission of the patriarch, and then only in the most extreme case.
