Ufa is the center of the Republic of Bashkortostan. This is a young green city with developed infrastructure and industry. The urban area is divided into several areas, each of which has its own characteristics.

Geographical features of Ufa

Ufa is located in the east of the Russian Plain and is the capital of the Republic of Bashkiria. The city has the status of a major economic and scientific center of the Russian Federation. The length of the urban area is about 40 km. The population is over 1 million people, which makes up a fourth of the population of Bashkortostan.

The climate is cool, continental and moderately humid. The average annual air temperature is +3.8 degrees, and the average rainfall is about 600 mm Hg.

The surroundings of Ufa are quite picturesque. The city is located on a semicircular hill, forming a high bank of the river. Around the city there are many deciduous forests, meadows and green spaces. City buildings and nature are in harmony with each other.

Economy of Ufa

Ufa is one of the largest economic centers in Russia. The city has a well-developed industry. Industries such as engineering, petroleum refining, and chemical manufacturing are most important. In total, there are about 200 industrial enterprises in the city.

Ufa ranks fourth in Russia in terms of retail sales. In the city there are a large number of outlets.

Almost all types of transport are developed in Ufa: road, rail, air and water. Intracity transportation is represented by trams, trolleybuses, buses, minibus and subway.

Other features of Ufa

Ufa has a large number of historical and architectural monuments. The oldest building is already several centuries old. It is interesting because in 1774 a famous Russian commander, Alexander Vasilievich Suvorov, stayed there. There are many squares and parks in the city. Some green spaces are natural. A large amount of vegetation is available both in the yards and on the streets of the city.

At the same time, emissions from industrial enterprises lead to high levels of urban air pollution. A lot of solid household and industrial waste is generated.

Ufa districts

The city is divided into seven districts:

  1. Kirovsky district (Ufa city) is the most ancient. He appeared at the dawn of the Soviet era - in 1935. It can also rightfully be considered the intellectual capital of the city. High-tech production of such types of products as electrical equipment, communications, textiles, medicines, food, and clothing are concentrated here. There are a large number of higher educational institutions in the region, including Bashkir State University, medical, pedagogical and other universities. In addition, there are various cultural institutions, health facilities, sports facilities, historical buildings.

  2. Leninsky district appeared on the map of the city in 1936. It includes three microdistricts: "Central", "Zaton" and "Nizhny Novgorod", which are located on the banks of the Belaya River. A feature of the district is the predominance of private buildings. In the Leninsky district of Ufa there is a ministry of culture and a large number of enterprises.

  3. The Ordzhonikidze district of Ufa was formed in 1952. It is the focus of industrial enterprises. In total, 220 large and medium-sized plants are operating, including oil refining, energy, construction and other industries. In total, they account for over 60% of the city’s production. In the Ordzhonikidze district of Ufa there is also a popular Victory Park and two stadiums: "Builder" and "Oilman".

  4. The Oktyabrsky district of Ufa appeared in 1977. It is considered the newest among other areas of the city. A large number of original and unusual buildings are concentrated on its territory. Cultural centers are represented by the Academic Drama Theater, the National Theater "Nur", the Park of Culture and Rest named after M. Gafuri and the Park of Culture "Kashkadan". Parks are a comfortable place to relax for urban residents. There is also a hippodrome in the Oktyabrsky district of Ufa, which is used for equestrian competitions. The sports palace and the sports arena are used for entertainment and hockey training.

  5. Kalinin district is located in the north-east of Ufa. He appeared in 1952. In the district there is a well-known enterprise for the production of motor and aircraft engines throughout the country. In total, 25 large industrial facilities operate in the district, which puts it in second place in terms of production after the Ordzhonikidze district. In addition to enterprises, there are a palace of culture, sports schools and playgrounds.

  6. Demsky district is located in the south of Ufa. Despite the large number of enterprises, the area is considered relatively favorable for living. The industry is represented by enterprises in the oil and medical sectors. There is also a large railway station and a museum of the Bashkir cavalry division.

  7. The Soviet district of Ufa is located in the city center, in the zone of intersection of road, water and railways. It is characterized by the highest population density. There are many medical institutions, literary publishers, editorial offices of local newspapers and magazines. The sports arena built in the area accommodates 8, 000 people.

Modern area transformation

Ufa is a young city, and various transformations are taking place in almost all of its regions. So, in Leninsky there is a massive replacement of old buildings with new ones. There are many modern high-rise buildings, shopping centers and private villas. Improvement of social infrastructure is also noted in the Soviet district. In Demsky, on the site of a working town, modern streets and city squares appeared, the city acquired a more neat appearance.
