Since ancient times, a horseshoe has been a symbol of happiness. Finding her is a good omen. If a horseshoe hangs above your door, then luck and health will come to the house. Based on this idea, you can make a sculpture of unnecessary horseshoes. Such an original thought occurred to a student from New Zealand, Olivia Alborn.
Horseshoe sculpture
The 19-year-old student Olivia Albborn, engaged in jumping, found a new hobby for herself - welding. At the beginning of the year, she began work on her project - a horse statue made of steel horseshoes. She was inspired by the love of horses.
The process of creating the sculpture was not easy: first, it cleaned the horseshoes of rust, then gave them the desired shape and welded them together. She also cut a steel plate imitating a horse’s shadow.
For welding horseshoes, she took a MIG Welder. In total, five hundred horseshoes took to make the statue, and it weighs about 250 kg. Next, the sculpture was processed using a sandblasting apparatus, and then coated with powder paint.
This creation will be presented at auction as part of the Land Rover Horse of the Year Show. Starting price is 20, 000 dollars. The buyer must be announced on March 16th. The girl is ready to gladly give 25% of the horse’s sale to the CatWalk Research Center for Spinal Injury.

The sculpture can be made not only of iron horseshoes, horseshoes can be replaced with others: for example, they can be printed on a 3D printer with the appropriate finished color and shade. They can also be made from special powders using high-temperature synthesis (SHS technology: self-propagating high-temperature synthesis). Horseshoes for the sculpture of a galloping horse can be made not only of the usual form, but also give them a modern original shape or take ready-made ones. They are sold in stores.
Connecting and straightening the typed horseshoes can be done with a conventional soldering iron, and with special devices.
