Large oil and gas condensate fields are one of the most valuable natural resources in Russia and the world. In this article we want to tell you about one of them being developed in Yakutia. This is the Talakan field. We give its important characteristics, recall the history of development.

What is the Talakan oil and gas condensate field?

The subject of our conversation is in the south-west of the Republic of Yakutia, in the middle of the Lena. The city of Kirensk, Irkutsk Region, is located 300 km from the Talakan field. More precise coordinates: 059 ° 49'23 ″ north latitude, 110 ° 53'03 ″ east longitude.

Surgutneftegaz Corporation holds a license for its development. The airport of the same name also has an airport built by this company for the accelerated development of both the industry of the region and social relations.

The balance reserves of this field are estimated at approximately 125 million tons of oil and 60 billion cubic meters of gas. Today's annual production is 8.435 million tons of “black gold”.

Well characteristics

The Talakan field in Yakutia is divided into three zones: East, Central and Taran. Here are some figures that characterize the amount of natural resources recoverable:

  • C2 category oil - about 18.1 million tons.

  • C1 category oil - about 105.4 million tons.

  • C2 category gas - about 19.6 billion cubic meters.

  • C1 category gas - about 43.4 billion cubic meters.

  • Condensate in category C1 - within 375 thousand tons.

The Talakan field is characterized by a rather close location to the earth's surface of oil productive formations - 1-1.2 thousand meters. At the same time, unlike, for example, West Siberian wells, here the oil lies in dolomites (carbonate deposits). Talakan wells are characterized by high flow rates.

Field Features

As a result of development, two productive horizons were identified:

  • Osinsky (main) - Lower Cambrian. Its first layer is oil and gas saturated limestones with dolomite interlayers, dolomitic limestones and dolomites proper. The second - dense dolomites with oil saturation of 67-86%.

  • Hamakinsky - deposits of the Vendian period.

Gas inflows - up to 550 thousand cubic meters per day. Oil here contains a small percentage of paraffins and sulfur.

The field is characterized by a complex geological and tectonic structure of the deposits. At the same time, a powerful gas cap and abnormally low reservoir pressure indicators are noted.

A brief history of development

The field was discovered in 1987. Its development started in the early nineties. In 1994, a temporary oil pipeline was launched from the Talakanskoye field to the village of Vitim.

We also note that Surgutneftegas, today owning a license for its development, in 2006-2008. invested 68 billion Russian rubles in the development of this project. In total, 48 wells were drilled.

In October 2008, a part of the 1105 km Vostochny oil pipeline was put into operation in reverse mode. It leads from the Talakanskoye field of Surgutneftegaz to Tyneshet. This pipeline allows the transfer of "black gold" from the well to the Angarsk petrochemical plant. Based on the data from 2015, about 700 tons of oil are produced here monthly.
