It is believed that underwater wonders need to go somewhere to the ends of the world, to the ocean coast and to exotic islands. And few people know that in the very center of Europe there is a unique Green Lake, which provides lovers of underwater travel with a unique opportunity to pursue their favorite hobby.
The phenomenon of mountain Styria
Austria is a well-known Central European country with a high standard of living, ancient cities and other attractions. Its province of Styria is world famous for mountain lakes, where lovers of mountain tourism and hiking come to rest with pleasure.
Among the Hohshvab mountains, near a small town called Tragoss, one and a half hundred kilometers from Vienna is a mysterious lake called Gruner See. Throughout autumn, winter, and most of spring, it is a sweet and very shallow pond. In the deepest place, the water column does not exceed two meters, and the average depth is even one. Around a cozy park with bridges, comfortable benches, beautiful flower beds and centuries-old trees. During these months, Green Lake (interlinear translation of its name from German) is a favorite place for walks of citizens and romantic dates.
Dream of divers
The reservoir takes on a completely different form at the end of May. In the mountains that surround the Green Lake, heavy snowmelt begins. The waters descend along the slopes and flood a significant part of the valley. The depth of the Grüner See during particularly snowy years increases to 12 meters. The whole park is under water: even the tops of the trees do not rise above its surface.
By the time the Green Lake spills, the lawns of the park have time to grow alpine greenery. As a result, its waters have a rich emerald hue: he gave the name to the reservoir. Moreover, the water is so clean that the lake is visible to the very bottom and from coast to coast.
Such a wonderful phenomenon attracts the attention of divers from all over the world. Until the end of July, when the waters begin to subside, scuba divers come to Green Lake, wishing to take a swim and sit under a tree on a bench, watching the fish pass by. It features a diving center, rental equipment for diving. True, there is no diving school, so a certificate is required from divers.
