Youth and work
06/11/1908 in the family of ordinary workers in the Tver province, the future hero of the USSR Sergey Ushakov was born. Its small homeland is the village of Krasnomaysky, located near the Vyshny Volochyok.
In his native village, the guy graduated from a ten-year school and, as was established, went to work at the Krasny Mai factory. Sergey Ushakov led the measured life of a simple working man. This lasted until 1930, when Sergei Fedorovich was drafted into the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army.
In 1931, he joined the Communist Party of the USSR.

Soviet-Finnish War

Service in the first years of World War II
Since July 1941, pilot Sergei Ushakov took part in the Great Patriotic War.
At the front, he was respected and appreciated. Sergey Ushakov showed extraordinary courage and rejection in sorties. at the head of a squadron of military bombers, he went to the rear of the enemy and destroyed the military strategic facilities of the Nazis. Ushakov's squadrons defeated the enemy in Tilsit, Kaliningrad, Bucharest, Warsaw and many other cities, and destroyed the enemy in occupied Soviet cities.
Sergey Ushakov was a recognized master of his craft, a virtuoso aviator, an excellent scorer and a high-class navigator. During the Second World War, he received another promotion and the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Sergei Ushakov was so masterfully skilled in airborne techniques that he reached his destination even in overcast conditions. He showed the miracles of aerobatics when he discovered and bombarded the Lgod railway station, occupied by the enemy, when, due to absolute cloud cover and barrage, it was almost impossible to detect targets.
Special Government Mission
The skill of pilot Sergei Ushakov and his devotion to the army were highly appreciated by the Soviet government.
In March 1943, Lieutenant Colonel Ushakov was entrusted with the performance of a particularly important task, which was the strictest state secret. Sergei Fedorovich was instructed as the navigator of the crew of Lieutenant Colonel Endel Karpovich Pusep to deliver a delegation of the USSR government to Great Britain and back to Moscow. The route along which the plane was moving was completely unfamiliar to Ushakov. Additional difficulties were also caused by the fact that the path to Great Britain ran through battlefields and undeveloped polar territories. Nevertheless, the navigator of the squadron of the 746th Aviation Regiment perfectly fulfilled the task assigned to it. The experience of combat flights of Sergey Ushakov by that time was enormous. In May 1943, the number of night bombings of the lieutenant colonel exceeded 90.
In the same year, Sergei Fedorovich received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
In 1943, he took the position of assistant chief navigator of the ADD, and served in this rank until the end of the war in May 1945.
Life after the war
After the Second World War Ushakov did not leave the military aviation.
In 1949, he became a graduate of the General Staff Military Academy.
Since 1952, for 4 years, he served as the main navigator of the USSR Long-Range Aviation.
In April 1957 he received a promotion and became first deputy commander of Long-Range Aviation.
In 1962-1963, as part of the Soviet delegation, he took part in negotiations with Fidel Castro on ways out of the Caribbean crisis.
After the war, the United States and Vietnam participated in the provision of military assistance to the latter.
And in 1967, Colonel Ushakov rose to the post of first deputy chief of the General Staff of the USSR Air Force.
At the age of 63, Colonel General Sergei Ushakov went into the military aviation reserve.
War Memoirs
After leaving military aviation, the reserve colonel general lived in the capital and set about writing military memoirs. In 1982, a book by Sergei Ushakov was published in Moscow entitled "In the interests of all fronts." In this work, the legendary pilot spoke about the terrible fighting everyday life of aviation soldiers and the activities of bombers. The author of his fellow soldiers recalls with special warmth and respect, narrates about the courage and heroism of Soviet bombers. The book is saturated with respect for the heroes and the pain of war losses.
