First problems

Vladimir Atlantov, whose biography is known to all lovers of opera music, was dissatisfied with his vocal abilities. Fortunately, the young man came across the brochure, “The Art of Singing, ” written by Caruso. In it, Enrico described the problems and experiences that had appeared in him throughout his career. After reading, Vladimir found that he was in a situation similar to Enrico. The young man began to practice regularly on the brochure of the famous singer. At first, he almost lost his voice. Of course, Atlantov understood that he would not succeed in singing, as before. The young man spent a whole year in a state of voicelessness and helplessness. And only then the singer noticed a tiny shift.

In many interviews, Vladimir Atlantov always gratefully recalled his teacher - director A. Kireev. He taught the singer tirelessness, naturalness in expressing feelings, and also taught him a number of lessons on stage culture. Kireev always told Atlantov that his main instrument is his voice. On the other hand, even silence should be vocal, singing. Vladimir admired the noble and accurate taste of the teacher, as well as his extraordinary sense of proportion and truth.

First success

He came to Atlantov as a student. In 1962, Vladimir received a silver medal at the Glinka vocal competition. After this, a promising student was invited to audition at the Kirov Theater. There, the singer performed in Italian the aria of Nemorino, as well as Cavaradossi, Jose and German. And he felt pretty confident. Then Korkin (theater director) approached Atlantov and said that he was taking him as an intern. The young man was set only one condition: he had to attend every performance and study diligently. And his labors paid off with interest. Immediately after graduating from the conservatory, the young man was enrolled in the troupe. Vladimir Atlantov performed the parts of Jose, Alfred and Lensky. Very quickly, he became a leading theater tenor. The next two seasons (1963-1965), the singer performed in "La Scala". There, the famous maestro D. Barra helped him polish his own style. He helped Vladimir master the specifics of Belcanto and prepare for several leading roles in the operas of Puccini and Verdi.

Crucial moment

Nevertheless, the Tchaikovsky International Competition became a turning point in the artist’s biography. There, the singer took the first steps to world fame. Competitions were held at the Moscow Conservatory. Vladimir Atlantov won first place and received a gold medal. This victory made the tenor famous not only at home, but also abroad. At that time, George London (an American singer) noted in his interview that in the future of Vladimir there is no doubt. And he was absolutely right.

Perhaps the most prominent role of Atlantov was Cavaradossi from Tosca, written by Giacomo Puccini. This opera was the decoration of the 1970/1971 season. She has received quite wide recognition from the music community and the public.

Vladimir Atlantov gave many concerts abroad.
