Vladimir Matetskiy is a Soviet composer whose music he enjoys to know and listen to a large number of music lovers. Known for such hits as “Moon, Moon”, “Lavender”, “Farmer”, “Cars”. His songs are performed by Sofia Rotaru, Vlad Stashevsky, Yaak Yoala, Katya Semenova, the groups “Leysya, pesnja!”, “Carnival” and “Cheerful guys”.
Vladimir Matetskiy: biography
Vladimir Leonardovich was born in Moscow on May 14, 1952. Sophia Karpilovskaya, a student of the Soviet pianist Elena Gnesina, taught him a professional keyboard playing since childhood. And the young man mastered the guitar under the influence of musical compositions of the British group Beatles, whose loyal fan is still.
Then there were searches for himself in various rock groups; in the same period, Vladimir began to write his debut songs. The love of music did not prevent the future composer from successfully graduating from the Institute of Steel and Alloys in Moscow in 1974. In the process of studying, he played the bass guitar, keyboards as part of the rock band “Successful acquisition”, popular at that time, in the “company” repertoire of which sounded several songs written by him. With this ensemble, the young composer took part in various rock festivals, for some time in the same composition he worked in the group of Stas Namin.
The first successes of the composer
The departure from the “Successful acquisition” of Vladimir Matetskiy, who decided to start independent swimming, led to the beginning of the composer's career; his first works were the songs “I won’t meet again” (the Carnival group with Alexander Barykin and Vladimir Kuzmin) and Fortuna (the Araks group). The composer gained all-Union fame brought together with Yuri Chernavsky the magnetic album Banana Islands (1983), songs from which the whole country sang: Robot, Zebra, Hello, Boy Banana.
In the late 80s, Matetskiy, fluent in English, took part in the “summit” of composers of the Soviet Union and America; on the Russian side, along with Vladimir was Igor Nikolaev, David Tukhmanov, Igor Krutoy, Vladimir Kuzmin. Following the meeting, an album of joint songs was released; the composer's work was performed by Anne Murray and Patti Label. After that, Vladimir Leonardovich received a proposal for joint cooperation from Desmond Child, a well-known producer. In Los Angeles, the songs of the Soviet composer were performed by Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper.
The legendary Lavender
The famous "Lavender" was written in 1985 at the request of television editors. The real hit, performed by Jaak Joala and Sophia Rotaru, sounded for more than a dozen years and became the business card of Matetskiy, who wrote the words of the refrain to “Lavender”. Then came “Wild Swans”, “Zasentyabrilo”, “It Was, But Passed”, “Moon, Moon”, “Stars Like Stars”, “Moon Rainbow”, performed by Sofia Rotaru. The composer's collaboration with this magnificent performer brought joy to both sides and grew into a long-term strong and real friendship. Moreover, they are friends of families, sometimes together they go on vacation.
An interesting story is the song "Farmer", which was dedicated to Sofia Rotaru. At first, the singer doubted the success of this dynamic and major song, which at that time was a rarity on the stage. But, realizing that the words of this composition are heard from almost every window, she changed her mind.
Fruitful collaboration
For Matetskiy, all compositions are the result of a complex process; the song is not being written soon - it is a painstaking long work, sometimes taking several months. Among the poets, with whom the composer happened to collaborate:

In the world of the film industry
Vladimir Matetskiy (photo of the composer can be found in the article) writes not only songs for pop veterans. Collaboration with a talented composer proved fruitful for the young singer Danko; for a long time the song "Baby" became a radio hit.
For many years (since the 60s) Vladimir Leonardovich has been collaborating with the Time Machine group and in 2007 became a co-author of her album. “The world abandoned by God” is a product of the composer's creative inspiration, which was included in this collection.
Success in the pop field continued with the writing of film music. The first proposal to Vladimir came from a novice director Vasily Pichul in 1988, filming Little Faith. The feverish pace of work, the conflict with censorship did not prevent this film from becoming popular not only in the vastness of the Soviet Union, but also in the West. Further, Matetsky’s cooperation with the same director continued in the films “Dreams of an Idiot”, “Dark Nights in Sochi” and in the short film “Male Revelations” by Yuri Grymov.
