According to "family tradition, " brother Eugene, who was then working as a ship mechanic on the ship of the Baltic Shipping Company, arrived home from another long-distance voyage. Eugene was slightly fed up with marine life, or perhaps a little tired, and he was increasingly visited by thoughts about whether to switch to land activities. Of course, the sailor was very attracted to business, but he also wanted him to somehow be connected with the sea, since to completely abandon the business in which he had worked for at least 20 years was beyond his strength.
The brothers found a way out. They came up with a plan and took up the implementation of a new business, using the connections of Eugene and the resources that Svetlana and Vyacheslav Leibman accumulated, whose biography moved to a new round. By renting a dry cargo vessel of the river-sea category, the brothers organized the export of timber from Russia to Sweden. Considering that at that time the infrastructure of the port in St. Petersburg was far from being in the best condition, the brothers themselves had to take care of refueling the bulk carrier for trouble-free transportation.
Success didn’t come from where they were waiting
Other carriers, as it turned out, had constant difficult problems with refueling ships. On the basis of their capacities, the brothers tried as best they could to help their colleagues by providing bunkering services at their request. Based on the results of the financial balance for the first quarter, interesting facts were revealed: timber export (their main activity) turned out to be unprofitable, but, incidentally, bunkering side services not only came to profit, but also recovered losses from timber trade. Quickly oriented, the brothers Eugene and Vyacheslav Leibman immediately retrained in the bunkering company Phoenix-Petrotrading.
Family Expansion
The company began to expand by pulling up partners, but not taken from the outside, but by joining the other brothers - Jacob and Vladimir. The business continued to remain within the family.
