Russian actor Andrei Gavrilov is not very well known to the public. This was largely due to the fact that he is more involved in dubbing foreign films than playing in domestic ones. His voice is spoken by the heroes of the “Ticket to Vegas”, “Jungle”, “Very Russian Detective” and many others.

Andrei Gavrilov was born on January 27, 1952. After graduation, he became a student at MGIMO, where he was able to get an education that allowed him to work for ten years as an international TASS reporter. In the 1980s, he gained popularity as a columnist for foreign music; it was from his pen that essays and annotations to records of popular Western musicians came out. At the same time, he became interested in cinema, and began to engage in author translations.

Gavrilov actively corresponded with Leningrad poets, some of which were later published in magazines and some books. In the 1990s, Andrei Yurievich worked in Ostankino, where he periodically appeared in the announcements of certain programs that appeared on the then emerging Russian television. He also periodically announces the broadcast of the prestigious Academy Award with his colleague Yuri Serbin. Now the actor is actively engaged in dubbing new films, also works on the Silver Rain radio.

Scoring movies

Andrei Gavrilov, according to many movie fans, takes a worthy place among translators and dubbing actors of the 1980-1990 era. He is put on a par with all the famous Volodarsky and Mikhalev. And if they most often translated comedic or fantastic action movies, then Gavrilov’s situation is different - for the first time it was Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and many other action heroes who “spoke” with his voice.

Now the actor continues to engage in dubbing films, while he does this only on the orders of his fans. Despite the tight schedule, he manages to voice the film in 10-12 days, taking into account the further editing, which is not always possible even for large dubbing companies. Such translations are very popular among the public, starving in the old days, when with one voice actors could convey the emotions of a large number of people.

Is it possible to make a filmography?

If you constantly remember who Andrei Gavrilov is, the filmography will be very extensive. According to fans of the translator, in his life he has translated more than 2, 000 films, and has not yet stopped on this. However, you can start making a list of films with those paintings that he voiced as a guest actor. Several studios, remembering the popularity of Gavrilov, invited him to cooperate, which, judging by the reviews of the audience, turned out to be very productive.

We are talking about the films “Crime Blues”, “Very Russian Detective”, “Sex, Coffee, Cigarettes”, “Zvorykin-Muromets”, “Ticket for Vegas”, “Jungle”. All of them were announced in the period from 2008 to 2015. Gavrilov also played himself in a documentary. We are talking about the film "Sex, Lies, Video: USSR". In 1992, the actor performed in an unusual role for himself as a screenwriter, presenting the film “Time X” to Russian cinema.

What movies are worth watching?

A huge number of characters gave his voice Andrei Gavrilov. Films, the list of which has already exceeded two thousand, and which he voiced over his long career, are still stored and transmitted by moviegoers. The most recognizable of them are action films, science fiction films and action games, which accounted for most of the repertoire offered in 1980 and 1990 to foreign and domestic audiences.

“Rambo”, “Universal Soldier”, “Terminator” - all these films were voiced by Gavrilov, some viewers still prefer to watch them only in voice acting from this actor. The reason for this popularity is a specific approach to work, when the translator seeks to convey the whole point of the film without replacing its original features with those that will be more understandable to the audience.

Contribution to the industry

Andrei Gavrilov, whose photo can be found on the largest portals devoted to art, is sure to go down in the history of cinema as a person who enlightened the audience of the USSR in difficult years for her. Despite the fact that the one-voice translation of films of those times was not very high quality, all the inhabitants of the Soviet Union loved it.

The actor himself says that he managed to develop the so-called unemotional translation technique. Andrei Yurievich believes that an actor engaged in dubbing a film should by no means pull the “blanket” to his side: he has no right to impose his own feelings on the viewer. In his opinion, many current dubbing masters sin in this. Some translators from modern dubbing studios do not hide the fact that they studied translation and voice acting at the works of Gavrilov.

Why are there no movie roles?

When asked why Andrei Gavrilov does not act in films, the actor replies that he does not see any sense in this. From the filming process, he, by his own admission, does not receive such pleasure as from voicing new and interesting films. However, the 64-year-old translator does not promise, and if suddenly some really interesting proposal appears, then he will definitely consider it.

In addition, Andrei Yuryevich periodically says that he is more of a translator, and calling him an actor is very stupid, because he does not even have the appropriate education. However, fans of Gavrilov’s work with their idol disagree, and are ready to call him an actor, following the example of leading film critics.
