The Kord machine is one of the latest developments of the legendary Degtyarev plant located in the city of Kovrov. For many years now, various models of weapons delivered to the arsenal of the troops of the Russian Federation and exported abroad have been leaving the conveyors of this enterprise.
History of creation: strict secrecy and brilliant premiere
It is noteworthy that the creation of "Cord" was covered in mystery. Even his appearance was kept in the strictest confidence right up to the presentation. Nothing was known of any technical details either. This was done for a reason, because in many respects the machine overtakes the analogues, and information leakage could have serious negative consequences. And only at the presentation of the new machine, which took place in Kovrov, the designers not only showed the latest weapons to the general public, but also demonstrated what the Kord machine is capable of. In fact, the machine is still nameless. “Cord” is a conditional name, an abbreviation that stands for “Kovrov Orzujniki-Degtyarevtsy”. In addition to the machine, the family with this name also includes other types of weapons.
New shutter design
The creation of a machine with minimal impact was the main goal of engineers and designers. For this, the experience of many gunsmiths was worked out. We managed to achieve the set task. For this, a fundamentally new shutter design was developed, on which a special balancer was installed. Reduced recoil greatly reduces the impact on the shoulder of the machine gunner.
How does the system work? The added balancer corresponds in weight to the entire bolt group. When a shot occurs, under the appeared pressure of the powder gases, the pistons and the balancer frames begin to move simultaneously, and the movement occurs in opposite directions. The speeds are equal. Due to this movement, the pulses cancel each other out.
What does it give? As a result, the Kord assault rifle does not shake at all in the hands of the shooter even at the moment of firing bursts. Butt does not hit the shoulder. This affects not only that the shooter gets tired less, but also on accuracy. According to the developers, it is twice as good as the standard standard.
The patent for the invention of a new system for suppressing shot pulses is currently owned by Russian design engineers. The technology is still not used by gunsmiths in any other country in the world.
Machine gun cartridges
The use of standard cartridges can play a decisive role in the battle. It is irrational to use different calibers and types of horns, because cartridges can end at the most inopportune moment, which will entail the most negative consequences. And when all the fighters use the same ammunition, this can be avoided. Therefore, it was initially decided to focus on the most common weapon in the world - the Russian Kalashnikov assault rifle. The Kord assault rifle fires the same cartridges as the legendary Kalash; standard horns fit it. Moreover, both caliber 5.45 and 7.62 can be used.
Tests and their results
At present, not all tests have been completed, but during preliminary tests it was possible to establish that the Kord assault rifle is already significantly ahead of its firearm counterparts. Some standards were passed with results that even exceeded the standards set by the Ministry of Defense. Indicators such as accuracy, sighting range, lethal force, just at altitude. A minimal role played by the Kord submachine gun also played a significant role. Optics mounted on weapons is also important. And besides a regular sight, a collimator is also suitable for the machine.
The performance characteristics
The world only recently heard the phrase “automatic Kord”, the technical characteristics of weapons have not yet been fully disclosed. The purpose of this weapon is to defeat the enemy’s manpower, lightly armored military equipment, unarmored vehicles. This weapon is capable of penetrating armor and metal plating at a distance of up to one kilometer. As for the enemy personnel, the Kord rifle, the optics of which, like on the machine gun, can be replaced by a more advanced one, can cause serious damage even to those dressed in personal protective equipment. In this case, the enemy can be even at a distance of one and a half kilometers from the sniper. The rifle is designed only for single shots, powered by ammunition comes from a five-shot frame. This weapon is loaded with cartridges of 12.7 mm caliber, its total length reaches 1.4 meters. For convenience, the arrow rifle is equipped with standard bipod, which can easily be folded out and folded.

Heavy machine gun "Cord"
Machine gun release started in 2007. Since then, this weapon has managed to show what it is capable of, not only in field trials, but also in a real war. Soldiers of the Russian armed forces used it in battles during the Second Chechen War, as well as during the armed conflict in South Ossetia.
Today, the Kord machine gun, whose optics are designed for considerable distances, is in service with the troops of the Russian Federation. Over the years, it has undergone many updates and was released in several versions. The most common and in demand - infantry and tank. “Cord” and “Warrior”?
So for what purpose a new machine gun was developed at all, especially since this is not just a new type of weapon, but an unprecedented event? Challenge the most legendary "Kalash" - this does not happen every day. For all the years of its existence, the Kalashnikov assault rifle has not acquired a single serious competitor. Nowhere in the world have gunsmiths been able to create a model that not only surpasses it in some respects, but at least equal to it in terms of wear resistance, reliability in battle, and durability. This weapon has been serving the Russian soldier for several decades. However, with the same success, it also serves soldiers from many other countries.
The idea of the manufacturer is not only to replenish the assortment of weapons of the Russian Federation. In fact, there is a more ambitious plan: the Kord assault rifle should become part of the famous Warrior equipment. Development continues, although the first samples of the new form have already been seen on the soldiers of some special forces units. In addition to high-quality and most comfortable military uniforms and shoes, the definition of "Warrior" includes the entire set of personal protection and personal weapons of a fighter. It is known about this project all over the world, and it is far from accidental that the nickname "Soldier of the Future" has been assigned to it.
Today, the Kalashnikov concern and the Degtyarev Kovrov arms factory are fighting for the right to make new models of assault rifles for Russian soldiers. After all the tests are completed, a special commission will decide which of the machines will be in service.
A word about the competitor
In secret conditions, not only Kord’s development took place, but also the creation of its main competitor, the AK-12 assault rifle. It was presented to the world in 2012, and was adopted in 2014. According to the developers, the new weapon has undergone a number of changes aimed at improving technical specifications and providing maximum comfort to the shooter.
