Chad Channing was born in Santa Rosa, California (USA) on January 31, 1967. The family consisted of five people: mother Bernice, father Wayne, eldest daughter Christie, middle son Chad and youngest daughter Joelle. The sisters linked their lives, one with medicine, receiving a nurse certificate in the United States, and the second with naval aviation, where she began her career as an air traffic controller. But their brother chose a completely different life path.
Chad Channing, biography and family
Wayne was a DJ, so he moved to cities where they offered jobs. Although his father was involved with music, in his youth, Chad was more interested in sports, especially football. But when the boy was 13 years old, an accident occurred at school. The boy had a fracture of the left tibia. He underwent eight operations, and recovered for a long time. The young man could not attend school, so he was at home schooling. Inaction was very overwhelming. To support his son, his parents gave him a red bass guitar for his birthday. A few weeks later, they already heard Chad confidently playing bass parts. This not only pleased the elders, but also allowed the guy to escape from the forced stiffness and pain.
When the plaster was removed, the question arose about developing the left leg. Channing bought a drum kit. Chad started practicing and soon had jams with friends. After he put together several “garage” groups and, finally, began to play with a couple of guys from a local club. Returning to school, the guy joined a school circle and began to study musical literacy. So began his career Chad Channing - drummer.
Leaving school
Chad Channing made many important decisions in his biography. One of them is leaving school. According to his parents, this was not unexpected, so he was supported. After the accident, Chad missed school a lot, and the teacher’s home visits could hardly replace classroom instruction. Due to the fact that he spent a lot of time in a hospital bed or at home, completely gypsum, experiencing terrible pain, if he continued his studies, he would graduate from school only at 20 years old. Chad was a peaceful and calm son, but full of determination in what he wanted to do. Parents were sure that Chad would find his place in life. And they were not mistaken.
First groups
Chad played in the band Mind Circus, then, along with Ben Shepherd, who later became the Soundgarden bass player, founded Tick-Dolly-Row. Around the same time, the Nirvana team, then called Bliss, began their lives. Soon a common acquaintance brought Chad with Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, who just needed a drummer. The musicians played several joint jam sessions and soon began to make full-fledged performances.
Way to Nirvana
The first single from Love Buzz was released in June 1988, shortly after Channing joined. And the first full-fledged Bleach album, written from December 1988 to the end of January 1989, was released on January 15, 1989. Note that on three tracks from the album, the drum parts were performed by Dale Krover. These are Floyd the barber, Paper cuts and Downer.
In April 1990, Nirvana recorded eight songs at Smart Studios. During the session, Kurt and Krist did not show much admiration for the work of the drummer, and Chad was worried that he was not involved in the creation of the tracks. Creative differences led to Channing's departure from the group by mutual agreement. Dave Grohl took his place, using some parts created by Chad when recording. And the song Polly, a version of which hit the first edition of Nevermind, was completely recorded by Channing.
After nirvana
After leaving Nirvana, Chad founded the Fire Ants team along with Dan MacDonald (bass), Brian (vocals) and Kevin Wood (guitar). In 1992, the band released EP Sriped. The producer was the legendary Jack Andino. In 1998, Channing worked again with MacDonald, founding Methodist with the assistance of John Heard and Eric Spicer. With this composition, the musicians released the album Cookies.
Channing later pushed the drums into the background to realize himself as a vocalist and bass player in the new project Before Cars. The band's first single was released in 2006 under the name Old Chair. Debut album Walk Back saw the light in 2008. Its producer was Jack Andino.
