But if you are worried about the idea of whether there are sharks in the Black Sea and whether it would be dangerous to take a family with you, then you need to first turn to history. The age of this reservoir is more than a million years. According to scientists, it was first formed as a lake, which separated from the vast ocean of Tethys. The latter was inhabited by a large number of marine inhabitants, including predators. Then there was a total earthquake, as a result of which the Black Sea was filled with sulfur and became unsuitable for any underwater life. During this period, all aquatic inhabitants died. And such an environment has become most suitable only for the existence of anaerobic bacteria, which even today actively proliferate there. And only after thousands of years other, more complex life forms appeared in the fauna of the sea.

So are sharks found in the Black Sea? The answer will be prompted by the results of research by scientists and history itself. Many people are sure that these predators are not there. Nevertheless, do not forget that the Black Sea is directly connected with the Mediterranean, in which they live. Therefore, to date, seabed investigators have already discovered two types of sharks, which are its stable inhabitants. Here is some information about them that directly clarifies the dilemma about whether there are sharks in the Black Sea. Yes they are. The first of these is the katran, a small prickly predatory fish. She poses no threat to human life and behaves quite peacefully in the sea. It carries danger only when it touches the human body sharply, since its spines can cause wounds. Also dangerous is the mucus covering the body of the predator, since it has toxic secretions. Therefore, you should be very careful with this shark and avoid touching it. And if this happened, then you should immediately consult a doctor.

Another inhabitant of the bottom of the Black Sea is the scilium shark, or the cat shark. She is not considered a permanent resident of these waters, but rather a “tourist”. Its static location is the Mediterranean Sea. It is just like a katran, it is small in size, therefore it does not pose a threat to life. Scyllium is very attractive for cooks, who willingly use it in cooking delicious food. In general, a cat shark lives quite peacefully on its sea territory and does not interfere with vacationers. Moreover, it is not so often seen here, in most cases during mass migrations of animals of this species.

So are there sharks in the Black Sea? We can say that there are, but still, these are not the standard predators that we are used to seeing on TV in various cognitive programs. Black Sea sharks are small fish that are completely unable to attack humans, they do not pose a danger to humans.
