Yekaterinburg is one of the largest cities in such a state as the Russian Federation. He lies on the banks of the river under the beautiful name Iset. It is the fourth most populous. The capital of the Urals is what the city of Yekaterinburg is called.

The river on which Yekaterinburg stands is truly amazing. It originates in Lake Iset, which is located only 25 km from the city. Further, its channel passes through a reservoir called the Shallow Lake, and then flows into the Verkh-Isetsky Pond. This reservoir was formed in 1725. Ustye - p. Hydronym
The name of the river in ancient times was given by the indigenous people. They lived in the area, on the site of which Ekaterinburg now stands. The river was rich in fish; therefore, some scholars associate its name with the Ket word “Iset Set, ” which literally translates as “fish river.” There are other versions, however, not one of them is not officially confirmed.

The area of the river basin reaches almost sixty thousand square kilometers. Its channel passes through three areas: Kurgan, Tyumen and Sverdlovsk. In the last region, it captures one village and several cities, in particular, Yekaterinburg. The Iset River has several tributaries. The main ones are r. Techa, Miass and Sinara. The length of this watercourse is more than 600 km. Of course, Iset cannot compete in the great rivers of Russia, but it still deserves its place of honor.
