This large-scale sports facility has long been familiar to rowing enthusiasts in our country. In the distant Soviet times, it was the most technically equipped waterway in Europe.

The rowing canal in Krylatsky was built in 1973, and its opening was timed to coincide with the European Championship in rowing. During the 1980 Olympics, rowing competitions were held on this channel.

Retrofit Channel

Forty years is not age for a sports facility of this level. Naturally, subject to regular updating of its material and technical base. But, unfortunately, in the 90s, when the USSR collapsed, funding for the canal was not made, and the construction gradually began to collapse.

In the period from 2008 to 2011, the canal rowing distance was re-equipped: new start and timing systems were purchased, as well as modern arbitrage catamarans worth seventy million rubles. The changes made it possible to hold the European and World Junior Rowing Championships at the highest level. But this was not enough for the 2012 World Cup and the 2014 World Cup, so the Moscow leadership decided to continue to develop the Krylatskoye rowing canal.

Reconstruction

It was decided to carry out the work gradually. The first stage was carried out in very difficult conditions: in winter, when the frost reached 30 ° C, builders had to conduct monolithic work. At such low temperatures it was very difficult, but the builders managed to complete the tasks on time.

The area of landscaped territory after the first stage amounted to about 40, 000 m 2. For the first time in the world in Krylatskoye, monorail video filming, which is also called the “running camera”, was mounted. She moves after the athletes at a speed of 60 km / h and transmits a very accurate and high-quality image to a large scoreboard located opposite the spectator stands. The monorail, whose length is 250 m, successfully serves the finish line.

Rowing channel "Krylatskoe" - a unique object. The most comfortable conditions for athletes and the panel of judges are created here. The channel has the most modern finishing tower to date.

Second phase

Further work continued in December 2013. A four-story dormitory was built: during the preparation and conduct of the competition, 84 athletes can comfortably accommodate 100 athletes. The building has a conference room, buffet and all the necessary functional rooms.

The revival of the famous building

After a major reconstruction in August 2014, the Rowing Canal in Krylatskoye will host the World Canoe Rowing Championship for the first time after the Olympics-80.

From 1994 to 2009, the Rowing Canal in Krylatskoye was a municipal enterprise that did not receive the financial subsidies from the city budget in the required amount and profit from its activities. Considering the interests of the city and Russian sports, in 2009 a decision was made to transfer it to the Moskomsport system.

The reconstruction of this sports facility was completed in July 2014, and today it is fully prepared for the World Championship, which starts in August 2014.

Rowing Canal: Nizhny Novgorod

This artificial canal stretches for 4 km along the Volga coast. It is located between the island of Grebnevsky Sands and the coast. There are no competitions on this channel. Nizhny Novgorod uses the rowing channel only for training athletes. In addition, there is a children's sports section that trains young rowers.

The beach at this channel is one of the most popular and visited places in Nizhny Novgorod. It is divided into rest areas by buoys. There is a zone for the youngest children, and even a playground for toddlers.
