She claims that phraseologism crystallized from everyday observations. Remember how the child is offended. He sticks out his lower lip, all frowns, like a mouse on the grits. In other words, the face seems pouting. Indeed, sometimes they speak without the noun “lips”. Sometimes they just notice: “What are you pouting?”
The first version seems realistic and vital, but you can’t say the same about the second.
Fedul. Second hypothesis
There was such a character in folk mythology - Fedul. His day is April 18th. It was believed by the people that after this date it would be sunny and warm, and if bad weather happens, it is rather the last whim of the outgoing winter. When Fedul failed and the good weather was late, they said that Fedul had “pouted”. And some believe that it was from this tradition that we got the expression “pout lips”. But even without extensive historical knowledge, it is worth noting that people unknowingly recorded Fedul's insult, and not vice versa. If phraseologism was no longer in the language, then the fact of the anger of the mythical creature was noted by a different speech turn.
