Boris Mikhailov is a name that is known not only to Soviet-era hockey fans. In the 1970s, he was known as one of the best players in the top three hockey strikers in Europe and the USSR. This man is a legend today, since he is actively and quite successfully engaged in coaching.
Birth and family of a future legend
Boris Mikhailov is a hockey player, whose biography began in Moscow, was born in 1944. On October 6, the long-awaited second son appeared in the family of Malkova Maria Lukyanovna and Mikhailov Pyotr Timofeevich.
The parents of the future hockey player were completely ordinary people. My father worked as a plumber, and his mother worked at the famous Java factory. Boris Mikhailov is a hockey player whose family was large. After his birth, several more children were born.
Brothers of the famous hockey player
Alexander, who was born in 1948, in the future became a master of refrigeration units. In 1950, brother Anatoly was born, who spent his whole life working as a taxi driver. Unfortunately, Boris’s younger brothers are no longer alive. The elder brother, Viktor Petrovich, has also died. Of the 4 children, only Boris was fascinated by sports, which later brought all-Union fame to his family.
Childhood and youth of Boris Petrovich
In an interview, Boris Mikhailov talks about the fact that his father, Pyotr Timofeevich, was from St. Petersburg. At one time, he served with Budenny, in a horse intelligence unit. After his father returned to Moscow, he worked as a locksmith. Unfortunately, the life of this man did not last long. He died in 1954 when his son Boris was 10 years old.
The full provision of the family and the upbringing of the four sons was taken up by the mother, Maria Lukyanovna. It should also be noted that the woman was forced to raise her family on her own in the very difficult post-war years. She died in 1984, when one of her sons, Boris, became a recognized and famous hockey player throughout the Soviet Union.
Ice Debut
Like almost any teenager in Soviet times, the future famous player and striker from childhood loved hockey. Mikhailov Boris first tried to play this game in his yard with his neighbors.
Then he was admitted to one of the hockey sections of the district stadium, which was called "Labor Reserves". When Boris Mikhailov reached the age of 18, he left for Saratov, where he played for the Avangard team for almost three years. This team was one of the weakest in class “A”. But since Mikhailov already stood out against the background of mediocre players, by chance he was noticed by Anatoly Kostryukov, the Moscow Lokomotiv head at that time.
Lokomotiv in those years was one of the Union’s strongest hockey clubs. Mikhailov played for this club for two years, after which he was drafted into the army, and there Boris got into the legendary army sports club.
Career growth and recognition
Mikhailov was 23 years old when he officially became a player in CSKA. Considering that other players came to the club at an earlier age and had a lot of experience, Boris Mikhailov, a hockey player whose height was 176 cm, at first did not look very impressive against their background. But over time, the confident tactics of attacking inherent only to him, as well as the specific stroke style, which provided for increasing acceleration, left no doubt that real hockey talent plays on ice.
Boris Mikhailov was recognized as one of the most courageous hockey players who was not afraid of tough rivals and ignored injuries and pain. He was lucky with his teammates. Mikhailov played with celebrities such as Petrov and Kharlamov. Later this three will be called the best forwards of Soviet times.
Awards, regalia and achievements of the great hockey player
Boris Mikhailov - a hockey player, whose number during the game as part of the USSR national team was 13, during his entire career he played 572 matches in the country's championships. In these games, he managed to score 428 goals. In Soviet hockey, no one was able to increase this figure. This man deservedly became the owner of numerous victories and titles, among which:
- Honored MS (rank obtained in 1969 after the victory of the national team at the World Cup).
- 11-time champion of the USSR.
- 8-time world champion.
- Champion of the Olympics, held in 1972 in Sapporo and in 1976 in Innsbruck.
- The best forward at the world championships held in 1973 and 1979.
- Best forward at the 1974 World Cup.
- Second medalist at the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980.
For his talent, hard work and numerous victories, Mikhailov was awarded a number of honorable state awards:

- Order of Lenin (1978);

Coaching
After the silver medal received at the Olympics in 1980, Boris Mikhailov, whose photo is presented in this article, decided to end his career as a player. But, having vast experience, knowledge and love for hockey, he was able to successfully realize himself in the coaching work.
At different times, he coached SKA in St. Petersburg. In the period from 1998 to 2001, Boris Petrovich was the head coach of CSKA. For two years, starting in 2007, he served as the head coach of Metallurg in Novokuznetsk.
It should be noted that it was under his leadership in 1993 that the Russian team managed to win the World Cup and for the first time received their gold medals on it. In 2002, under his leadership, the team won the title of vice-champion of the planet.
In his interviews, Boris Petrovich talks about the fact that even today he is often made attractive offers to work as a coach. But he refuses because of his age and because his beloved and devoted wife is against such offers. She wants her husband to finally be at home a bit.
Spouse and children of Mikhailov
With his wife, Tatyana Egorovna, the legendary hockey player lived for almost 50 years. They met for the first time as children, in a pioneer camp. Tatiana was then only 12 years old, and Boris a little more. She first invited the guy to a white dance, and after that they did not see each other for several years. Boris Mikhailov says that when after 4 years, quite by accident, he met Tatyana again, he realized that this was not a mere coincidence. He decided to definitely marry this girl.
Tatyana Egorovna was educated as a nurse, and after marriage she gave birth to a wife of two sons: Yegor and Andrey. Since the husband was constantly traveling and gathering, the mother was fully engaged in raising children. It is natural that the houses of the legendary father were seen very rarely. Based on the prevailing circumstances, the whole economy was also run by Tatyana.
After the children have matured, for a long time the hockey player’s wife herself lived in a family cottage near Moscow, in the village of Povarovo. As for the sons, then, apparently, the genes laid down by the father showed themselves. Both of them, having matured, also linked their fate with hockey.
The first son, Andrei, was born in 1967, and the second, Yegor, in 1978. Initially, the eldest was sent to the figure skating section, and the youngest was engaged in swimming. But the guys made an independent decision to continue the path of their father. Andrei played on the ice for some time, but then he realized that he could not become a legendary forward, and took up quite a successful coaching activity, taking the post of head coach of CSKA-2. At the same time, being a player in the youth of CSKA, he received the title of champion of the USSR.
The youngest son Egor also achieved certain successes in hockey. At one time, he played for CSKA, Metallurg, SKA and Dynamo. Yegor took part in the “All-Star Game” and won a well-deserved victory in the European Champions Cup.
