A name day is called a holiday, also known as Angel Day. It is timed to commemorate the saint, whose name is man. This saint, according to church tradition, is the patron saint of heaven for him and for all who are named in his honor. Thus, it turns out that this is a purely Christian or even only Orthodox (partly Catholic) tradition, since Protestant churches do not recognize the veneration of saints. Therefore, for all who are not Orthodox Christians (or Catholics), such a holiday does not exist. In this article we will provide a list of saints who are patrons of people named Yegor.
About Name Day
Name days are associated exclusively with the name that the baby was called in the sacrament of baptism. Accordingly, an unbaptized person cannot celebrate this day, no matter what name he bears. In this case, the name in the font does not happen just like that, but in honor of some holy saint, who becomes a special intercessor before God, as Orthodox Christians believe in that. In the future, it is impossible to change the church name and, therefore, the patron saint. The only exception is monastic tonsure, in which a person accepts a new name.
After baptism, the day on which the memory of the saint is honored according to the church calendar will be considered the name day. Of course, many of them were called the same in life. Therefore, choosing a specific name, you can choose the saint who bore him. If a person was baptized in childhood, and there is no information left about in honor of which particular saint he was called, they proceed as follows: they find in the saints the day of memory of the saint of the same name closest to the person’s birthday. He will be considered birthday. But if you want to choose a specific person, to which you feel a special sympathy, you can do so, neglecting formal procedures.

It must be said right away that there is no such name in the calendar. Yegor celebrates the name day in the church in the days of memory of St. George - that’s exactly how Egorov is baptized. And most often, their patron becomes, of course, the great martyr George, whom we know from the coat of arms of Russia and ten-copecks coins. But actually this is not the only option, because in the church calendar there are a lot of saints with the name George (Egor). Orthodox name days can be associated with any of them. Previously, this name, by the way, was used as an epithet to the god Zeus. Below we provide a basic list of all St. George by month.
June
The 19th of this month is the day of remembrance of St. George. Unfortunately, in addition to the name and rank of glorification in the face of saints, nothing more is known about him. Moreover, there are very, very many such unknown saints in the church calendar.
July
July 4 marks the memory of a Russian saint named George. During his lifetime, he was a monk, a priest in the rank of archimandrite. He accepted death in Nizhny Novgorod, in 1932, at the hands of the Soviet authorities.
July 16 is another day of an unknown reverend with the same name.
August
On the 3rd and 13th of the month are Yegor’s name days, celebrated in honor of two St. George. Both of them are martyrs. And about both, besides this, nothing is known.
September
September 21 is the day when the confessor of the church, archimandrite George (Mkheidze), is recalled.
October
At the beginning of October, the 2nd, commemoration of the rightful Prince George Olegovich. He was the ruler of the city of Chernigov, as well as the Grand Duke of Kiev, until he was betrayed by the conspirators and overthrown from the princely throne. Then he bore the name Igor, and George was named when tonsured a monk, who was forced to accept by force in order to avoid murder. However, he was still killed, having been executed from the church in the middle of the service. The body of the murdered prince-monk was thus thrown on the city square.
November
In November, Yegor’s birthday is celebrated, whose patron is the martyr George Yurenev. At the beginning of the 20th century, he lived in Vitebsk, where he worked as a judge. But in the 20s he was exiled. And in the 30s they were also charged with counter-revolutionary activities. Initially, he was sentenced to forced labor in correctional camps, but then the sentence was changed to the maximum sentence for participation in the activities of the catacomb church. The shooting took place in 1937.
December
In December, the memory of confessor George Sedov is honored. He was not a clergyman, but as a layman he served as the headman of various temples. In the 30s and 40s, he was repeatedly subjected to repression by the Soviet authorities. One day a part of the staircase collapsed on him, as a result of which George was seriously injured. A year later, he died from them, having failed to recover from the disease.
Another December St. George is a pillar of the same name, the memorial day of which falls on December 31. There is no more information about him.
January
January 30 is a day dedicated to the memory of a martyr who was killed in 1838 in the Turkish city of Paramitye. The reason for the accusation of this saint was the fact that, being a nee Muslim, he professed Christianity. He was seized in the market square and demanded to renounce Christ, and having been refused, the young man was hanged at the city gates.
February
February 10 is the day of the unknown St. George.
February 17 is the day of remembrance of yet another holy Prince George, but this time of Vladimir.
March
March 23 is the day of the unknown reverend.
March 18 is also the day of the unknown saint, but already a martyr.
April
April 17 - celebration of the reverend from the island of Peloponnese.
May
May 6 - Egor's name day falling on the day of memory of St. George the Victorious. He is glorified as a great martyr, who was chopped off for believing in Christ by order of the emperor Diocletian.
