The Slipknot group, among thousands of other “grunts” of heavy metal, stands out primarily for its non-standard appearance. Once they appeared in strange gray suits (similar to radiation protection) with the S logo, and their faces disappeared behind creepy masks. Many fans of the group want to feel at least for a moment the hero of their favorite rock band, so this article will talk about how to make a mask of Corey Taylor with your own hands. However, you must first briefly talk about the musician himself, and about what personalities he tried on for himself during the entire existence of Slipknot.

A little bit about the hero hiding his face

The mask should reflect the essence of the inner "I", that is, the person who is hiding in the bowels of the soul of each of us. You need to be strong in order to allow him to declare himself, because he can turn out to be a bad guy and not correspond to the moral principles of society. Sometimes it is necessary to give an outlet to this “prisoner”, otherwise he will one day raise a riot and swallow you with his head!

Cory Todd Taylor is not only the frontman of the famous team, but also the founding father of Stone Sour, the manager of Facecage, and also the owner of Great Big Mouth Records. He was born December 8, 1973 in the US state of Iowa, the town of Des Moines. He owns not only an excellent voice, but also the ability to play the bass guitar.

The fate of Corey Taylor is once again a proof that, if desired, you can achieve everything that you could wish for. Mother and son lived below the poverty line, and he met his father as an adult man. Until the age of 12, the guy managed to live in 25 states, which could not but affect his mental state. Corey had an obsessive obsession with anything. The disease manifested itself in the fact that the guy counted out every step out loud. The left leg has odd numbers, and the right leg is even.

As a result, the mother sent the kid to Waterloo to his grandmother. There he tried drugs. However, after a short time I decided to tie it up. Corey Taylor became interested in rock music, so his grandmother gave him a guitar.

In his youth, the guy managed to work hard at the counter of a sex shop, where he spent most of his time thinking about human nature. In the 98th year, members of the Slipknot band invited Taylor to the position of second vocalist, but he soon became the lead. The guys in the original masks became very popular, and initially they did not show their faces to anyone. This was their main feature - a certain raid of mystery attracted people's attention as well as possible. The mask with dreadlocks of Corey Taylor appeared at the very beginning of Slipknot’s career, and over time various metamorphoses occurred to her.

"Face" of a vocalist of different years

All the musicians of the group look non-standard, however, since the article is devoted to the scenic appearance of the frontman, which he changed in honor of the release of each of the albums, we will dive into the history of Slipknot and recall all the masks of Corey Taylor.

  1. 1999 - A simple black leather bag with eye holes. Dreadlocks hung from the top of the head, for which slits were also made. Putting on a mask was a real torture and the scalp was terribly “drawn”, so the musician came up with a different option.
  2. 2001 - the mask is exactly like the first, only it was already made from latex. Corey cut off several of his dreadlocks and put them on glue.
  3. 2004 - a mask that looked like a face scorched in a fire - blackened skin with a bluish tint hung in rags. Hair was dyed in different colors: red, black and green. The holes for the mouth and eyes are much larger. There was another version of the mask - white, as if smeared with lime.
  4. 2008 - latex again, but the slits for the eyes are made asymmetrically and covered with a mesh.
  5. 2014 - the new mask is fundamentally different from its predecessors. It is a human face of a terrible green color with a "smile to the ears", which is darned with black thread on the sides. There are slots for the ears, eyes, nose and mouth, and the upper part of the “skin” is removable and, if desired, opens a view of the lower mask with a bluish tint and large cuts for the eyes.

Expression Method

Like other Slipknot members, Corey Taylor's mask is a reflection of the inner guy who is hiding behind the appearance of an ordinary person. Each of them is a unique thing and for some musicians it has not changed much for the entire time the group has existed. But the masks of Corey Taylor, Sid and Clown express the full dynamism of their character, so they changed dramatically.

The frontman believes that the main thing is not to lie to yourself and at the same time be original in self-expression. In 2010, the bassist Paul Gray died, so the last stage appearance became a reflection of the musician’s inner experiences (as well as his comrades). The mask of Corey Taylor since The Gray Chapter is face to face. She helped express all the pain and anger of the vocalist experienced in connection with this sad event. According to him, if he had not radically changed his “face”, he would have long ceased to feel like a living person.

How to make a Corey Taylor mask

If you are a fan of Slipknot, you can surprise your friends with their appearance at a theme party. Any of the nine masks can be easily made from papier-mâché with your own hands, and the first stage of creation is the basis for each of them. However, it will be described exactly how to create a Corey Taylor mask.

  1. First you need to take a simple white mask of a human face made of plastic. However, to give greater realism, you can "create", make your own cast. Take a piece of polymer clay, roll it into a layer about 5 mm thick and apply it to your face. Especially carefully work out the areas of the eye sockets and nose, after which take a cast, and carefully cut holes in the right places.
  2. Prepare pieces of finely chopped paper (you can use a newspaper), then cover the base with petroleum jelly or vegetable oil. The working material should be laid evenly in eight layers, each of which is coated with water, alternating with PVA glue. After that, “forget” about the blank for five days. Remove the dried product from the base, and walk well on it with sandpaper to achieve smoothness. Further, it all depends on which mask you need. Color it and decorate with accessories for sewing.
  3. To create a Corey Taylor mask at number 4, coat the base with a layer of white paint. After that, expand the hole for the right eye with a jigsaw, and achieve the correct round shape. Draw a black outline around the left, and cut a horizontal ellipse for the mouth.
