Lublin cemetery was founded in 1635. It got its name from the nearest estate and the village of Lyublino (from the 18th century, earlier Godunovo). Initially, it was a typical rural graveyard on which peasants were buried. From the beginning of the 18th century, wealthy and noble families began to build summer residences and summer cottages in Lublin. Over time, the borders of Moscow also changed, and very soon, residents of the nearest residential areas began to be buried at the Lublin cemetery. Since 1939, an official archive of burials has been maintained, in 1960 the necropolis was included in the Moscow list, and a little later it was closed and assigned the status of a memorial.

Lublin cemetery today

Today, this necropolis is part of the Southeast administrative district of Moscow. The territory of the cemetery is about 19 hectares. Lublin cemetery today looks well-groomed and comfortable. The paths are asphalted, in the summertime, flower beds are broken. At the entrance to the territory there is an information board with a plan diagram of a necropolis. On such an ancient graveyard it is nice to see many well-groomed graves. If you wish, you can order monuments to the Lublin cemetery and other elements of the ritual decoration of burials. On the territory of the necropolis there is an organization offering the manufacture and installation of sculptures, tombstones and fences. Also, if you wish, you can rent grave care accessories here.

The cemetery officially received memorial status in the days of the USSR. But, despite the official closure of the necropolis, family and family burials are still being held here today. To organize such a funeral, it is necessary to collect all the necessary documents and confirm the relationship with a person whose grave is already on the territory of the necropolis. Burials are carried out today in two ways: a coffin with a body or an urn with ashes in the ground. Lublin cemetery is being improved today. In 2001, near the ancient necropolis, the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called was built and consecrated, it is possible to order memorial services and funeral services in it. On the territory of the cemetery there is a mass grave of soldiers who died during the Second World War, recently there was also a monument to the defenders of the homeland. There is also a site on the territory where the burial of enemy prisoners of war was carried out.
