The colorful coat of arms of Dmitrov is described by many experts, local historians, experts in heraldry. This is not surprising, because the history of the city, founded in 1154, is rich in events, and not just military ones. The symbolism of the coat of arms and flag reminds of this.

Description of the coat of arms of Dmitrov

The coat of arms of the city was developed by specialists who took as a basis the previously known symbolism. A historical fact says: Dmitrov was a city that adopted four Russian princes within its walls in 1301 and became the center of peace negotiations. That is what is displayed on the coat of arms.

Against the background of an ermine field, four crowns are located at an equal distance from each other, two in two rows. Ermine fur is a symbol of dominance. It was used as a decoration in clothes and heraldry of those in power: kings, princes, sovereigns.

The crown is also the embodiment of power. Arranged in the correct geometric order, they talk about the equality of the specific princes participating in the negotiations.

It is symbolic that the coat of arms and flag of Dmitrov, a city of military glory, who, by the will of historical events, took part in all military operations of his state, reflect peace talks aimed at finding compromise solutions to problems.

A bad world is better than a good war …

150 years before the above events, in 1154, Prince Yuri Dolgoruky founded a city - a fortress on the Yakhroma River. It was named in honor of the then-born princely son. The parent named the heir Vsevolod, who received the Christian name Dmitry at baptism.

Dmitry Yuryevich, later nicknamed Vsevolod the Big Nest, was the Prince of Vladimir. He received his nickname for having a large family. Ten sons, which means ten heirs, began to divide before the united Vladimir Principality. After the death of the prince, a long-term civil war broke out, bloody and destructive. Each of the brothers wanted to become the Grand Prince of Vladimir.

The Dmitrov Kremlin reliably guarded the city from enemy raids, but the emblem of the city reminds of completely different events within its walls. Mired in wars, Russian princes gathered here for peace talks. The city of Dmitrov is located on the borders of the Tver, Moscow, Gorodets and Pereslavl principalities. For the first time in almost 200 years, a peaceful meeting of the princes took place.

Chroniclers claim that her results were small. The Tver and Moscow princes left, dissatisfied with each other. Not all problems have been resolved. But this event is immortalized on the coat of arms of Dmitrov.
